Job Purpose:
We are seeking an experienced Wind Construction Manager to take overall responsibility for the site execution and construction activities of the Wind Power Plant within a large-scale renewable hybrid project.
The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring all wind construction activities, including civil works, wind turbine foundations, turbine erection, electrical works, internal roads, cable systems, testing and commissioning, and coordination with the transmission line and substation packages.
The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in utility-scale wind farm construction, with positive working knowledge of transmission lines, pooling substations, switchyards, evacuation systems, and grid interconnection.
Key Responsibilities:
Overall Wind Construction Responsibility:
- Take overall responsibility for execution of the Wind Plant construction activities at site.
- Lead day-to-day construction activities and ensure execution as per approved drawings, specifications, method statements, schedules, and project requirements.
- Plan, coordinate & monitor construction activities from site mobilisation through mechanical completion and commissioning.
- Ensure timely availability and deployment of manpower, equipment, materials, cranes, and other construction resources.
- Identify site constraints, construction risks, and interface issues and ensure timely resolution.
- Supervise wind turbine foundation construction, roads, crane platforms, drainage, cable trenches, and associated civil works.
- Manage wind turbine component transportation, unloading, storage, and erection activities.
- Coordinate tower, nacelle, hub, blade, and other major component erection.
- Ensure proper execution of turbine erection in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and OEM requirements.
Civil Construction:
- Supervise construction of turbine foundations and ensure compliance with approved engineering specifications.
- Monitor excavation, reinforcement, formwork, concreting, curing, grouting, and foundation backfilling.
- Coordinate construction of internal roads, crane pads, culverts, drainage systems, laydown areas,
and other balance-of-plant infrastructure.
- Ensure quality of civil works through proper inspection and testing.
- Coordinate with geotechnical, civil engineering, survey, and quality teams.
Electrical Works:
- Supervise wind farm electrical construction, including MV collection systems, cables, junctions, earthing, and associated equipment.
- Coordinate installation of turbine transformers, switchgear, RMUs, panels, protection systems, and auxiliary systems, as applicable.
- Ensure proper cable laying, termination, testing, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with electrical testing and commissioning teams for energisation and synchronisation activities.
- Ensure compliance with approved electrical drawings, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.
Transmission Line & Substation Coordination:
- Coordinate construction interfaces between the Wind Plant and the Transmission Line and Grid Substation.
- Possess working knowledge of transmission-line construction, including tower foundations, tower erection, stringing, earthing, and associated works.
- Coordinate with transmission-line contractors for timely completion of the evacuation system.
- Coordinate with substation construction teams for installation of transformers, switchyards, GIS/AIS equipment, protection and control systems, and associated facilities, as applicable.
- Ensure proper interface between wind-farm collection systems, pooling substation, transmission system, and grid interconnection facilities.
- Support planning and coordination for energisation, testing, synchronisation, and grid connectivity.
Contractor & Vendor Management:
- Manage and coordinate EPC contractors, civil contractors, electrical contractors, turbine OEMs, logistics agencies, and other site agencies.
- Review contractor work programs, manpower deployment, equipment requirements, and construction methodologies.
- Conduct regular progress meetings and track action items.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual requirements, schedule, quality, safety, and productivity targets.
- Resolve construction-related technical and interface issues in coordination with engineering and project management teams.
Planning & Progress Monitoring:
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules and short-term look-ahead plans.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress.
- Track critical activities and identify potential delays.
- Coordinate recovery plans and additional resources where required.
- Prepare progress reports and management updates.
- Coordinate with project planning, engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure construction readiness.
Quality Management:
- Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, method statements, and quality procedures.
- Coordinate inspections and testing with the QA/QC team.
- Ensure proper documentation of inspections, test reports, NCRs, punch points, and corrective actions.
- Ensure quality requirements are met before handover and commissioning.
HSE Management:
- Ensure strict implementation of project HSE requirements at site.
- Promote a strong safety culture among employees, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with work-at-height, heavy lifting, crane operation, electrical safety, excavation, transportation, and other applicable safety requirements.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, and audits.
- Stop unsafe work and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Commissioning & Handover:
- Coordinate mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and energisation activities for the Wind Plant.
- Coordinate with the turbine OEM, electrical team, substation team, transmission team, and grid authorities as required.
- Ensure closure of construction punch points before handover.
- Coordinate preparation of as-built drawings, test reports, completion dossiers, and handover documentation.
- Support successful synchronisation and commercial operation of the Wind Plant.
Candidate Profile:
Essential Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
- Typically, 08-10 years of relevant experience, with significant experience in wind power project construction.
- Strong experience in utility-scale wind farm construction and turbine erection.
- Experience in renewable hybrid projects will be an advantage.
- Good knowledge of transmission lines, pooling substations, switchyards, and grid evacuation systems.
- Experience in managing EPC contractors and multiple site interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of construction planning, project execution, QA/QC, and HSE requirements.
