About the Role

We are looking for an AI & Backend Engineer - L1 who is interested in building practical AI-powered applications and backend systems.

The candidate will work with our development team across different projects involving Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, APIs, backend systems, databases, automation and integrations.

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain backend applications and REST APIs using Python.
- Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into applications and business workflows.
- Work with AI APIs and implement practical Generative AI solutions.
- Build and maintain AI-powered features such as document processing, question answering, text generation, classification and analysis.
- Work with databases and design efficient data storage and retrieval solutions.
- Develop integrations with third-party APIs and external services.
- Implement asynchronous/background processing where required.
- Debug, test and improve backend and AI-related functionality.
- Work with senior developers to understand requirements and convert them into technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and follow development best practices.
- Write clean, reusable and maintainable code.
- Research and evaluate new AI tools, models and technologies when required.
- Troubleshoot issues across development and production environments.

Must-Have Skills

Programming & Backend

- Strong knowledge of Python
- Good understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
- Valuable understanding of REST APIs
- Hands-on experience with at least one Python backend framework:
- FastAPI




- Django / Django REST Framework
- Flask
- Understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, authentication and API concepts
- Basic understanding of asynchronous programming in Python

AI / Generative AI
- Good understanding of Generative AI and LLM concepts
- Hands-on experience with at least one LLM API such as OpenAI, Gemini, Claude or similar
- Understanding of:
- Prompt engineering
- Context and token limitations
- Structured AI responses
- AI API integration
- Hallucinations and AI response validation
- Basic understanding of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
- Understanding of embeddings and semantic search is a strong advantage

Database
- Good understanding of databases
- Hands-on experience with at least one of:
- PostgreSQL
- MongoDB
- MySQL
- Understanding of queries, indexing and basic database design

Development Tools
- Good understanding of Git
- Familiarity with GitHub / GitLab / Bitbucket
- Basic knowledge of Docker
- Ability to work with APIs using tools such as Postman
- Comfortable working with Linux-based development environments

Good-to-Have Skills

Candidates with experience in any of the following will have an advantage:

- RAG applications
- Vector databases such as Qdrant, Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma or pgvector
- LangChain / LlamaIndex
- AI agents
- Document/PDF processing
- OCR
- Redis
- Celery or other background job systems
- Web scraping / automation
- Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure
- Docker and Docker Compose
- CI/CD
- Elasticsearch
- AI evaluation and testing
