Sales Manager Pharmaceutical Industry

Location: Ghana

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Function: Pharmaceutical Sales / Sales Management

Travel: Field-based role with extensive travel within Ghana

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Sales Manager to lead pharmaceutical sales activities in Ghana. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales growth, developing customer relationships, managing key accounts, and leading a field-based sales team.

The role will involve selling pharmaceutical products to a diverse customer base, including pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, distributors, and other healthcare customers.

This is a highly field-oriented position and requires regular travel within Ghana to meet customers, support the sales team, develop recent business opportunities, and strengthen relationships with existing accounts.

A strong background in pharmaceutical sales is mandatory for this position. Candidates without relevant pharmaceutical sales experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

* Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve company revenue and growth targets.

* Drive sales of the company’s pharmaceutical product portfolio across Ghana.

* Identify and develop new business opportunities with pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, distributors, and other healthcare institutions.

* Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers and accounts.

* Develop territory and customer plans to maximise sales opportunities.

* Monitor market trends, competitor activity, pricing, and customer needs.

* Negotiate commercial terms with customers where appropriate.

* Ensure effective product promotion and availability across assigned territories.

* Identify opportunities to expand product distribution and market penetration.

Team Management

* Lead, manage, motivate, and develop the pharmaceutical sales team.

* Set individual and team sales targets and monitor performance against objectives.

* Conduct regular field visits with sales representatives to coach and support them.

* Provide guidance on customer management, sales techniques, product knowledge, and territory development.





* Review sales performance and implement corrective actions where required.

* Foster a high-performance, accountable, and customer-focused sales culture.

Customer & Market Management

* Maintain strong relationships with pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, distributors, and other healthcare professionals.

* Regularly visit customers and key accounts to understand their requirements and identify current opportunities.

* Gather market intelligence and provide feedback on competitor activity, customer demand, pricing, and market developments.

* Work closely with internal teams, including marketing, supply chain, finance, and management, to ensure excellent customer service and product availability.

* Address customer issues and support timely resolution of commercial or service-related concerns.

Reporting & Administration

* Prepare regular sales forecasts, territory reports, and performance updates.

* Maintain accurate customer and sales information.

* Monitor sales targets, budgets, collections, and other relevant commercial KPIs.

* Ensure sales activities are conducted in accordance with company policies and applicable pharmaceutical industry requirements.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

* Proven experience in pharmaceutical sales is mandatory.

* Previous experience in a sales management, area sales management, regional sales management, or similar leadership role within the pharmaceutical industry.

* Demonstrated ability to achieve and exceed sales targets.

* Experience selling to pharmacies, hospitals, wholesalers, distributors, or other healthcare customers.

* Proven experience managing, coaching, and motivating a sales team.

* Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical market in Ghana.

* Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills.





* Strong commercial and business-development mindset.

* Ability to analyse sales data and translate market information into actionable sales plans.

* Willingness and ability to undertake extensive internal travel within Ghana.

* Ability to work independently and effectively in a field-based environment.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

* Relevant pharmaceutical sales training or professional qualifications will be an advantage.

* Valid driving licence and ability to travel extensively within Ghana are preferred/required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an energetic and commercially focused pharmaceutical sales professional with strong knowledge of the generic healthcare market. They should have a proven track record of delivering sales results, managing customer relationships, and leading field sales teams.

The successful candidate should be comfortable spending significant time in the field, travelling across Ghana, meeting customers, developing new accounts, and supporting their sales team directly.

Please note: Pharmaceutical sales experience is a mandatory requirement for this position.
