JOB DESCRIPTION — MARINE ELECTRICIAN

Location: GCC region
Employment type: Project-based contract — shutdown, ship repair and maintenance
Role overview
SMEC Automation Pvt Ltd is hiring experienced Marine Electricians for a shutdown project in the GCC. The role involves electrical installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair onboard vessels, ensuring work meets project specifications, quality requirements and safety procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out electrical repair and maintenance on marine power distribution, lighting, motors, starters and control systems.
- Install, route, dress, gland and terminate power and control cables.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules and termination details.
- Identify and rectify faults in electrical circuits, equipment and control panels.
- Inspect and service switchboards, distribution boards, junction boxes and associated electrical components.
- Perform continuity and insulation-resistance testing using appropriate instruments and approved procedures.
- Assist with equipment commissioning, functional testing and reinstatement following shutdown work.
- Record completed work, test results, defects and outstanding requirements.
- Coordinate with supervisors and other trades to complete assigned tasks within the shutdown schedule.
- Follow permit-to-work, electrical isolation, lockout/tagout and shipyard safety procedures.
Qualifications and experience
- ITI in Electrician/Electrical trade, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent relevant trade qualification.
- Proven practical experience in marine electrical work, shipbuilding, ship repair or offshore maintenance.
- Experience with shutdown or dry-docking projects is preferred.
- Ability to independently carry out cable termination, equipment connections and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with electrical testing instruments, marine wiring practices and safe working procedures.
- Ability to understand technical instructions and work effectively in a multicultural team.
Project requirements
- Willingness to travel to the GCC and work onboard vessels and at shipyards.
- Ability to work assigned shifts and meet time-sensitive project schedules.
- Valid passport and availability for mobilisation according to project requirements.
- Ability to meet applicable site medical and safety requirements.
