Job Description – HR Manager | School
Position: HR Manager
Industry: Education / School
Location: SURAT
Reporting to: Principal / Management / Trustee
Role Objective
To manage and strengthen the school’s complete people function by ensuring the right talent, effective HR systems, employee discipline, statutory compliance, performance management and a positive work culture for teaching and non-teaching staff.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Talent Management
- Manage end-to-end recruitment for teachers and non-teaching staff.
- Prepare JDs, coordinate interviews, reference checks and selection.
- Maintain a talent pipeline for critical positions.
- Ensure structured joining and onboarding of new employees.
2. HR Policies & Systems
- Develop, implement and periodically review HR policies and SOPs.
- Maintain employee records, personnel files and HR documentation.
- Establish systems for attendance, leave, confirmation, transfers and exits.
- Ensure HR processes are consistent across departments.
3. Performance Management
- Implement annual/periodic performance appraisal systems.
- Establish KRAs/KPIs for teaching and non-teaching staff in consultation with school leadership.
- Track probation, confirmations and performance improvement plans.
- Support HODs/Coordinators in handling performance issues.
4. Employee Relations & Discipline
- Handle employee grievances and workplace conflicts objectively.
- Address disciplinary matters in coordination with school management.
- Promote qualified behaviour, accountability and teamwork.
- Maintain confidentiality in sensitive employee matters.
5. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws and education-sector requirements.
- Coordinate PF, ESIC, Professional Tax, Gratuity, Bonus and other applicable compliances.
- Maintain statutory registers, records and documentation.
- Coordinate with external consultants wherever required.
6. POSH & Child-Safety Compliance
- Coordinate implementation of POSH policies and awareness programs.
- Support the functioning of the Internal Committee.
- Ensure employee awareness regarding child protection and safeguarding policies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality.
7. Learning & Development
- Identify training needs for teachers and staff.
- Coordinate induction, soft-skills, behavioural and professional-development programs.
- Support leadership development for coordinators and HODs.
8. HR MIS & Reporting
- Maintain accurate employee databases and HR dashboards.
- Prepare monthly HR reports covering manpower, attendance, attrition, recruitment, vacancies and training.
- Provide management with people-related insights and recommendations.
9. Culture & Employee Engagement
- Build a professional, respectful and collaborative workplace culture.
- Conduct employee engagement initiatives and feedback mechanisms.
- Strengthen communication between management, leadership and employees.
Candidate Profile
- Qualification: MBA/PGDM in HR / Master’s in HR or equivalent.
- Experience: 5–8 years of relevant HR experience; experience in a school/education environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HR systems, employee relations and labour compliance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Mature, discreet and capable of handling confidential matters.
- Strong documentation, coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and interact confidently with Trustees, Principal, HODs, teachers and support staff.
