Role Summary
Prepare accurate 2D fabrication and CNC drawings for museum, science centre and exhibit mechanisms and structures, in line with IS 696 / SP 46.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed part, assembly and GA drawings with BOM and cut lists.
- Develop sheet metal flat patterns with bend allowance, bend deduction and K-factor.
- Create CNC functional drawings (laser, router, bending) with correct tolerances and nesting-ready files.
- Prepare weldment drawings with weld symbols, joint types, edge preparation and sequence notes.
- Design and draw spur and bevel gear sets, including gear ratio and speed calculations.
- Select and detail bearings, bushes and shafts with standard sizes, fits and tolerances.
- Select materials correctly for each application.
- Coordinate with the workshop for fabrication feasibility, and revise drawings on site feedback.
- Review drawings prepared by junior draftsmen and guide them on standards.
- Maintain drawing revision control and a drawing register.
Technical Skills Required
1. Gear Design Fundamentals: spur and bevel gears, module, pitch circle diameter, number of teeth, pressure angle, centre distance, and ratio and RPM calculation.
2. Bearings, Bushes and Shafts: standard sizes, shaft and housing fits (clearance, transition, interference), keyways,
circlips and shoulders.
3. Sheet Metal Development: flat pattern, bend allowance and deduction, relief cuts, hems, and minimum bend radius by material and thickness.
4. CNC Functional Drawings: hole and slot tolerances, tool access, kerf and nesting considerations.
5. Weldments: weld symbols per standard, fixtures, distortion control, and tube and plate frames.
6. Material Knowledge: aluminium (sections and sheet), polycarbonate, acrylic, brass, gypsum board and chequered sheet. Includes grades, available thicknesses, behaviour in bending, cutting and joining, and typical uses.
7. Drawing Standards: IS 696 and SP 46 (lines, dimensioning, sectioning, GD&T; basics, title block).
8. Software: AutoCAD (mandatory). SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is an added advantage.
Qualifications
- Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering or Draughtsman (Mechanical).
- 5–8 years of experience in fabrication or exhibit/engineering drawing.
Desirable
- Experience with kinetic or mechanical exhibits, display fabrication or metal and acrylic work.
- Ability to read and mark up client and architect drawings.
Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
