About Ometaura AI
Ometaura AI is an early-stage robotics venture building autonomous mobile manipulation robots for warehouse and logistics operations.
Our robots combine a multi-axis manipulator, autonomous mobile base, and interchangeable end-effectors to perform reliable, high-throughput operations in real industrial environments.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Mechatronics Engineer who can work across mechanical design, electronics, actuation, prototyping, and complete mechatronic integration.
You will contribute to taking robotic systems from prototype → testing → manufacture-ready design.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design
- Design robotic structures, frames, joints, chassis, linear axes and end-effectors using SolidWorks / Fusion 360
- Perform FEA and structural analysis
- Apply GD&T;, tolerance stack-ups and DFMA principles
- Design linear motion systems, ball screws, guides and robotic interfaces
- Develop modular quick-change end-effector interfaces
Actuation & Drive Systems
- Select and commission servo motors and drives
- Work with multi-axis motion systems and EtherCAT
- Integrate harmonic/strain-wave and planetary gearboxes
- Work on BLDC motors and mobile robot drive systems
- Design braking systems for vertical robotic axes
Electronics
- Design PCBs for power distribution, sensors and robotic I/O
- Work with KiCad / Altium
- Work with battery systems, BMS and power electronics
- Interface with IMU, encoders and other sensors
Robotics & Systems Integration
- Lead physical prototype builds and assembly
- Integrate mechanical, electrical and software subsystems
- Work with ROS 2 and EtherCAT
- Develop and execute hardware acceptance tests
- Perform root-cause analysis and maintain FMEA/design documentation
Required Skills
- Degree/background in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
- Mandatory: hands-on experience building physical robots
- Strong CAD skills — SolidWorks preferred, Fusion 360 also considered
- Experience with mechanical design and prototyping
- Basic/strong understanding of motors, actuators and electronics
- Python and/or C++
- Familiarity with ROS 2
- Ability to work hands-on with real hardware and testing equipment
Strongly Preferred
Experience with:
- ABU Robocon / robotics competitions
- Robotics clubs or team-based robot building
- EtherCAT / SOEM
- Harmonic drives
- Mobile robot bases
- Robotic grippers / vacuum systems
- CNC machining and sheet-metal fabrication
- FEA
- URDF/Xacro, RViz2 or Gazebo
- ISO 13849 / IEC 62061
Who Should Apply?
We especially encourage:
- Final-year & pre-final-year B.Tech students
- M.Tech students
- PhD students
- Experienced robotics builders
Exceptional candidates with a proven record of building real robots may be considered regardless of academic qualification.
Students with strong hands-on experience through Robocon, e-Yantra, robotics clubs, Mars Rover teams, autonomous vehicle teams, or similar robotics projects are encouraged to apply.
Location
Bangalore — On-site required
This is a hands-on prototype-building role, so candidates should be comfortable working directly with physical hardware. A minimum 6-month commitment is required, with potential conversion to full time.
