Role Overview
The Academic Lead – Early Childhood Education will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the academic framework across Eager Beaver’s preschool and daycare centres.
The role will be responsible for ensuring high-quality curriculum delivery, mentoring and developing teaching teams, maintaining academic standards, conducting centre-level audits and observations, and creating a contemporary, playful and engaging learning environment for young children.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about early childhood education, comfortable working across multiple centres, and experienced in curriculum development, teacher training and academic leadership.
Key Responsibilities1. Curriculum Development & Implementation
- Design, develop and continuously update the preschool and daycare curriculum.
- Ensure curriculum alignment with Finnish pedagogy, EYFS and Reggio Emilia-inspired approaches.
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans, learning activities, worksheets, projects and teaching resources.
- Plan, schedule and support the execution of monthly academic events, carnivals, PTMs, Annual Day and Sports Day.
- Monitor the procurement and effective use of books, toys, worksheets, teaching aids and supplementary learning materials.
- Develop assessment formats to monitor children's development and learning in alignment with the curriculum.
- Introduce innovative teaching methodologies,
resources and technology into the academic programme.
2. Teacher Training & Development
- Conduct regular teacher training programmes, workshops and professional development sessions.
- Mentor teachers and provide ongoing academic and pedagogical support.
- Observe classrooms and review lesson plans, academic documentation and learning environments.
- Onboard and train new teachers on curriculum, classroom practices, lesson delivery and classroom management.
- Work closely with Centre Heads, Centre Coordinators and teachers to identify and resolve academic challenges.
3. Academic Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular centre visits and classroom observations to ensure effective curriculum implementation.
- Assess teaching practices and ensure alignment with defined educational standards.
- Conduct regular teacher assessments and develop improvement strategies.
- Collect and analyse academic and teacher-performance data to identify development needs.
- Conduct academic audits covering curriculum implementation, lesson planning, classroom practices, learning environments, documentation and teacher effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain academic audit checklists, standards and reporting formats.
- Track action plans and support centres in implementing academic improvements.
4. Content & Parent Communication
- Create and review content for newsletters, social media, certificates, progress cards and parent communication.
- Support the development of supplementary academic literature and learning resources.
- Ensure academic communication is clear, engaging and aligned with the organisation's educational philosophy.
5. Events & Learning Experiences
- Support the planning and execution of special events, field trips and educational visits.
- Ensure children are provided with diverse, meaningful and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Collaborate with centre teams to integrate learning objectives into events and experiences.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Qualification/certification in Early Childhood Education.
- Certification or practical experience in planning and delivering Finnish Early Years, EYFS or Reggio Emilia curriculum.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood education, including experience in a leadership or managerial position.
- Strong understanding of Finnish, Reggio Emilia and/or contemporary early childhood education principles and practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Creative problem-solving ability with a proactive approach to challenges.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, centre teams, parents and programme partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel across Eager Beaver centres in Mumbai.
