Overview
You will own the media layer of our Interactive Live Streaming product: deploying and tuning LiveKit in US
East and Europe, delivering sub-second latency from hosts to large audiences, and keeping streams stable on poor networks.
Duties
- Deploy, configure and operate LiveKit Server and TURN in us-east-1 and eu-central-1.
- Tune host-to-audience delivery: simulcast, adaptive stream, dynacast, codecs and bandwidth estimation.
- Meet targets of under 800 ms host-to-audience latency and at least 20 co-hosts with 5,000 audience members per room.
- Implement stage flows at the media level: promoting viewers to publish and returning them to the audience.
- Design stream placement (room pinned to the host's region) and recovery for host disconnects, network handover and node failure.
- Run load tests with LiveKit's load tester and define per-server capacity limits.
- Build quality monitoring: join time, latency, packet loss, freezes and TURN usage per stream.
- Prepare the design for later additions: recording, HLS overflow for very large audiences and more regions.
- Investigate and resolve stream-quality issues; plan safe LiveKit upgrades.Skills
- Extensive experience with WebRTC frameworks such as LiveKit for real-time audio/video communication and live streaming applications.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Python, Java, and Ruby on Rails for full-stack development.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure), and microservices design principles.
- Expertise in front-end development with React, Angular, Bootstrap, HTML5/CSS3 for creating engaging user interfaces tailored for live media interactions.
- Solid knowledge of backend technologies including ASP.NET Core, Node.js, WCF services, RESTful APIs, SOAP web services,
and application design patterns like MVC and OOP.
- Familiarity with database systems such as MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server; including database design and optimization techniques.
- Experience with version control systems like GitHub, SVN, TFS; CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment processes.
- Strong understanding of system design for scalability and performance tuning in high concurrency environments involving WebRTC streams.
- Knowledge of multimedia protocols (RTSP/RTMP), codecs (H264/H265), and network protocols essential for high-quality live streaming solutions.
- Ability to work effectively within Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban while maintaining focus on delivering innovative media solutions.
What you bring (required)
- 4+ years building or operating real-time audio/video systems.
- Deep WebRTC knowledge: ICE, STUN/TURN, SDP, DTLS-SRTP, SFU architecture, simulcast, congestion control, NACK/FEC.
- Production experience with LiveKit or another media server (mediasoup, Janus, Jitsi, Pion).
- Solid Go skills, or strong systems programming skills and willingness to work in Go.
- Experience load testing and capacity planning media servers.
- Linux networking and UDP-heavy workload experience.
Nice to have
- Live streaming experience (live shopping, social, creator or education platforms).
- FFmpeg/GStreamer, LiveKit Egress, HLS and CDN delivery.
- Contributions to LiveKit, Pion or other open-source media projects.
- AWS EC2 network-optimized instance experience.
Technology you will work with
LiveKit (Server, client and server SDKs), AWS (us-east-1 and eu-central-1), Go, Pion, LiveKit CLI and load tester, TURN, Redis, EC2, Docker, Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana.
Pay: ₹38,550.00 - ₹48,200.00 per month
