Designation: Finance Controller– Controllership, Compliance & Strategic Finance
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Delhi/NCR
Experience: 8-10 years of experience in finance leadership across controllership, statutory compliance, FP&A;/financial analytics, finance systems and project-based or multi-location operations, including at least 5 years leading teams.
Qualification: Chartered Accountant (CA) strongly preferred; CMA / CPA / ACCA / MBA (Finance) are positive alternatives.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and seniority.

Role Purpose: Be the CFO’s principal partner in owning the integrity of the numbers, the organisation’s statutory and regulatory standing, the quality of forward-looking insight, and the systems that make all of it repeatable. The role owns the controllership function (books, closes, audits and reporting), the full compliance and internal-controls framework, program- and entity-level analytics and projections, and the finance systems and processes that scale with the business. It also leads the finance transformation agenda, moving finance from reporting what happened to shaping what happens next, and taking the organisation to its next level of scale, control and credibility. The role requires someone who can work across Operations, Accounts, Billing, Procurement, Inventory, HR, Legal, Technology and liaise with auditors, regulators, lenders, government and institutional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Controllership & Financial Reporting — 30%

Own the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of the books and every number that leaves finance.

● Own the end-to-end record-to-report cycle: books of accounts, month-end, quarter-end and year-end closes, and entity-level consolidation.

● Ensure financial statements comply with applicable accounting standards (Ind AS / IFRS / local GAAP), including revenue recognition, provisioning, leases, fixed assets and related-party treatment.

● Maintain program-wise and project-wise books so that revenue, direct costs and margins are traceable to each program, district and contract.

● Drive a faster, cleaner close: set a close calendar, cut-off discipline and reconciliation standards, with minimal post-close adjustments.

● Oversee bank, vendor, customer, inter-company and balance-sheet reconciliations, and ensure aged items are cleared.

● Own working-capital discipline: receivables, billing status and ageing, payables, advances, cash application and cash-flow visibility.

● Oversee billing and invoicing accuracy, including supporting documentation for government and institutional customers, and follow up on approvals, releases and collections.

● Manage statutory, internal and tax audits as the single point of coordination with auditors, and close audit observations within agreed timelines.

● Maintain the chart of accounts, accounting policies, finance policy manual and approval matrices, and update them as the business evolves.

● Ensure expenses, advances, reimbursements and asset records are supported by appropriate documentation and audit trails.

2. Compliance, Risk & Internal Controls — 30%

Ensure the organisation is always compliant, audit-ready and protected from financial and regulatory risk.

● Own the compliance calendar across direct and indirect taxes (Income Tax, TDS/TCS, GST, transfer pricing where applicable), Companies Act and ROC/MCA filings, FEMA/RBI, and labour-law and statutory payments.

● Where applicable,

own disclosure and governance requirements (SEBI LODR, lender covenants, grant and donor conditions, CSR and utilization-certificate requirements).

● Design, implement and test Internal Financial Controls (IFC) and risk-control matrices; ensure segregation of duties and approvals are enforced in systems, not just on paper.

● Build a live compliance dashboard with owners, due dates, status and escalation triggers so no filing, payment or disclosure is ever late.

● Manage tax positions, assessments, notices and litigation with external advisors; maintain a contingent liability and risk register.

● Identify cost leakages, financial deviations and control gaps across programs and locations, and drive corrective action to closure.

● Partner with Legal, HR and Secretarial on board and audit-committee reporting, policy governance, agreements, whistle-blower and fraud-risk matters.

● Lead readiness for internal audits, investor, lender and government audits, and any applicable certifications or control frameworks.

3. Financial Analytics, Planning & Projections — 20%

Convert numbers into insight, and insight into decisions, projections and action.

● Own annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and the long-range plan (3–5 years) in partnership with business and program heads.

● Build driver-based models linking operating metrics (volumes, pricing, headcount, capacity, field productivity, unit economics) to financial outcomes, so projections are explainable and not just extrapolated.

● Maintain program-level and company-level P&L;, budget vs. actual and margin tracking; run variance analysis that explains why, quantifies the impact and recommends action.

● Develop scenario and sensitivity analyses (base / upside / downside) for pricing, cost, capex, funding, collections and market or policy shocks.

● Provide profitability analytics by program, customer, channel, geography and business unit; identify margin leakage and cost-to-serve issues.

● Support investment decisions with business cases, ROI / IRR / payback analysis and post-investment benefit tracking.

● Own cash forecasting, funding and treasury visibility; support fundraising, lender and investor materials, valuation and due-diligence requests.

● Deliver a monthly MIS pack and a concise CFO / CEO / board dashboard covering KPIs, trends, risks and decisions required.

4. Finance Systems, Automation & Process Build — 10%

Build the systems and processes that let finance scale without adding proportional cost.

● Define and own the finance technology roadmap: ERP optimisation or migration, close-management, planning and consolidation tools, BI layer, e-invoicing, and expense and procurement integration.

● Automate high-volume manual work (reconciliations, GST/TDS workings, accruals, MIS generation) to free capacity for analysis.

● Establish a single source of truth for financial and operational data, with clear data ownership, master-data governance and audit trails.

● Standardise and document core processes (procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, record-to-report,

hire-to-retire interface) with SOPs, SLAs and KPIs.

● Integrate field, billing, inventory and HR data with the finance system so program data flows into the books accurately and on time.

● Embed dashboards (Power BI / Tableau or equivalent) for self-service access by business leaders and program teams.

● Ensure system access controls, backups and data security meet audit and regulatory expectations.

● management.

6. People & Stakeholder Leadership — 10%

Build a high-performing finance team and be a trusted partner to leadership and the field.

● Build, mentor and lead the finance team (Controller, Compliance & Tax, FP&A; / Analytics, Systems & Projects); define roles, career paths, succession and capability plans.

● Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability and curiosity: own the number, explain the number, improve the number.

● Act as a business partner to Operations, Sales / Business Development, Procurement, HR and Technology leaders, translating finance into decisions.

● Coordinate with auditors, tax authorities, banks, lenders, government departments and institutional customers on filings, documentation and approvals.

● Present with clarity to the CFO, CEO, audit committee and board; escalate material risks, delays and performance issues early.

● Be the go-to person for cross-functional finance and control issues across locations.

What we are looking for: We are looking for a hands-on finance leader who enjoys building systems, owning the numbers and driving closure. The ideal candidate has led controllership, compliance and FP&A; in a growing, multi-location or project-based organisation, and has delivered at least one major finance transformation (ERP implementation, close-process redesign or planning-platform rollout). Experience working with government programs, rural livelihoods, agriculture, CSR or development-sector implementation, or with institutional customers and grant-funded projects, is highly desirable. This is a builder’s role: someone who runs a flawless close on Monday and presents a three-year scenario model to the board on Friday.

Skills:

● Deep command of accounting standards, Companies Act, direct and indirect taxation and regulatory compliance.

● Strong in financial modelling, forecasting and scenario analysis; able to understand and build a project-level and company P&L.;

● Advanced Excel / MIS; working knowledge of SQL, Power BI or Tableau; comfortable with ERP (SAP / Oracle / NetSuite / Dynamics / Tally Prime or similar).

● Strong in internal controls, risk frameworks and audit methodology.

● Project and programme management capability (Agile and waterfall, change management).

● Comfortable handling billing, collections, procurement, inventory, agreements, SOPs & people.

● Able to coordinate with auditors, regulators, banks, government authorities and institutional customers.

● Able to enforce processes and controls without losing the ability to work collaboratively.

● Strategic thinker with strong follow-up, execution and closure discipline.

● Excellent written and verbal communication, including board-level presentation.

● Integrity and independence: willing to hold the line on compliance and challenge when needed.

● Comfortable being the “go-to person” for finance, compliance and cross-functional issues.
