We are looking for an experienced Fleet Mechanic to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair ambulances. The mechanic will be responsible for ensuring that ambulances are in protected and operational condition and are available for emergency services without unnecessary downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect ambulances regularly and identify mechanical and electrical issues.
Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of ambulances.
Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, suspension, steering, and cooling systems.
Troubleshoot starting, charging, and other vehicle electrical problems.
Check and maintain battery, alternator, starter motor, lights, wiring, and fuses.
Carry out routine oil, filter, coolant, brake-fluid, and other maintenance.
Attend emergency vehicle breakdowns and complete repairs as quickly as possible.
Inspect tyres, wheel alignment, brakes, and suspension for safety.
Maintain proper records of vehicle repairs, servicing, spare parts, and maintenance history.
Coordinate with spare-parts suppliers and workshops when specialized repairs are required.
Ensure ambulances meet required roadworthiness and operational safety standards.
Conduct periodic inspections and identify potential failures before they occur.
Support the operations team in reducing vehicle downtime.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of the workshop and tools.
Follow company safety procedures and maintenance schedules.
Qualification
ITI – Diesel Mechanic / Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MMV) preferred.
Diploma in Automobile / Mechanical Engineering will be an advantage.
Candidates with relevant automobile/vehicle maintenance experience may also be considered.
Experience
2–5 years of experience in automobile, fleet, commercial vehicle, or ambulance maintenance.
Experience with diesel vehicles is preferred.
Experience in ambulance or emergency-service vehicle maintenance will be an added advantage.
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of diesel engines and vehicle mechanical systems.
Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.
Ability to identify mechanical faults and perform repairs.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance.
Ability to work under emergency/breakdown conditions.
Basic documentation and maintenance-record skills.
Ability to handle tools and workshop equipment safely.
Preferred Candidate
ITI Diesel Mechanic / MMV / Automobile Diploma
