POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the mechanical assembly, precision alignment, debugging, and setup of new custom industrial automation machines, assembly fixtures, and high-speed mechanisms. Working closely under the guidance of the Mechanical Design Engineer, this role focuses on transforming design blueprints into functional floor machinery, conducting mechanical trials, fine-tuning mechanisms during prove-out phases, and ensuring the equipment transitions smoothly to production with optimal stability and cycle time.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
· New Machine Mechanical Assembly: Assemble custom automation machinery, pick-and-place units, indexing tables, and complex linkages strictly adhering to 3D models and assembly blueprints.
· Precision Alignment & Levelling: Perform critical structural leveling, axis squaring, and precision alignment of linear guide rails, ball screws, servo-driven tracks, and multi-station rotary nests.
· Pneumatic System Piping & Integration: Build and route pneumatic circuits from schematics, including valve manifolds, air preparation units (FRLs), high-speed cylinders, vacuum ejectors, and sensors.
· Mechanical Debugging & Fitment Correction: Identify design interferences, binding points, or tight tolerances during the initial build, and execute mechanical modifications using workshop tools.
· Machine Setup & Product Changeover Tuning: Setup, configure, and fine-tune mechanical nests, guide tracks, feeding bowls, and pick-and-place grippers for varied product variants.
· Dry Runs & Machine Trials: Conduct systematic dry runs and manual cycle testing to verify mechanical timing, mechanism synchronization, and smooth component transfers.
· Production Prove-out & Cycle-Time Optimization: Support the engineering team during final machine validation (FAT/SAT), identifying bottlenecks to optimize mechanical cycle times and minimize part jamming.
· Vision & Sensor Mounting Setup: Assist electrical and vision teams by designing, adjusting, and rigidly mounting precision brackets for sensors, cameras, and specialized lighting systems.
· Documentation & Build Logs: Maintain accurate red-line markups on assembly drawings to document structural modifications made during the machine build phase.
· Safety Guarding & Interlock Setup: Install, align, and test mechanical safety housings, light curtains, and safety door interlocks to guarantee full operational safety compliance before production handover.
· Other Duties: Any other responsibilities that management may entrust from time to time.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
Education
· Diploma or ITI in Mechanical Engineering / Tool & Die Making / Mechatronics or equivalent technical trade.
Experience
· 1 to 5 years of hands-on experience focused heavily on machine building, automation assembly, prototyping, or machine commissioning.
· Prior experience in assembling and debugging high-speed connector assembly machines, rotary indexing machines, or automated pick-and-place lines is highly preferred.
Skills
· Blueprint Competency: Expert capability in reading complex mechanical assembly drawings, section views, and pneumatic schematics.
· Precision Metrology: Mastery in using precision measurement tools (dial indicators, micrometers, height gauges, feeler gauges) for geometric verification and axis alignment.
· GD&T; Practical Application: Solid understanding of clearance, interference fits, parallelism, perpendicularity, and how they impact high-speed machinery mechanisms.
· Toolroom Machinery Operation: Hands-on skill operating basic machine shop equipment (conventional milling, surface grinding, drilling, tapping) to rework parts during debugging phases.
· Mechanical Troubleshooting: Strong logical approach to diagnosing mechanical faults, indexing desynchronization, pneumatic pressure drops, and linkage binding issues.
· Safety Practices: High awareness of machinery safety during debug stages, including controlled testing, zero-energy states, and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) protocols.
Adaptability & Ownership: Self-driven mindset with the ability to work under strict project deployment timelines and handle iteration loops during prove-out trials.
