Job Description – Tendering Engineer (Electrical Projects)

Position: Tendering Engineer – Electrical Projects
Department: Tendering / Estimation & Business Development

Reporting To: Tendering Manager

Job Purpose

To manage the complete tendering and estimation process for electrical projects, including tender study, quantity estimation, technical and commercial evaluation, preparation of BOQ, costing, quotations and submission of competitive and technically compliant bids within the stipulated timelines.

Key Responsibilities

- Tender Identification & Review
- Identify and review new electrical project tender opportunities.
- Study tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQ, scope of work, and contractual conditions.
- Analyse client requirements, eligibility criteria, technical specifications, and submission requirements.
- Prepare tender submission checklists and ensure all required documents are available.
- Estimation & Quantity Take-Off
- Review electrical drawings and prepare detailed quantity take-offs.
- Estimate quantities for electrical equipment, materials, manpower, installation, testing and commissioning.
- Prepare and verify BOQs based on drawings and project specifications.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and potential variations.
- Costing & Pricing
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
- Prepare material, labour, subcontract, equipment, transportation and other project cost estimates.
- Analyse prevailing market rates and prepare competitive project pricing.
- Calculate overheads, contingencies, margins and other applicable costs as per company guidelines.
- Prepare detailed cost sheets and comparison statements.
- Technical Tender Preparation
- Prepare technical proposals, compliance statements,



deviations and clarifications.
- Coordinate with the engineering team for technical queries and drawing clarifications.
- Ensure proposed materials and equipment comply with project specifications and applicable standards.
- Prepare technical submittals and supporting documents wherever required.
- Commercial Tender Preparation
- Prepare commercial offers, price schedules and rate analysis.
- Review commercial terms, payment conditions, taxes, retention, LD, warranty and other contractual requirements.
- Highlight commercial risks and unfavorable conditions to management.
- Support management in final price negotiation and tender strategy.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Float RFQs to approved vendors and subcontractors.
- Follow up for timely submission of quotations.
- Compare quotations based on price, technical compliance, delivery period and commercial terms.
- Maintain an updated database of vendor and subcontractor rates.
- Tender Submission
- Ensure complete tender documentation before submission.
- Coordinate preparation of technical and commercial bid documents.
- Submit tenders within the specified deadlines through online portals or physical submission, as applicable.
- Maintain records of submitted tenders and tender status.
- Post-Tender Activities
- Analyse tender results and maintain tender status reports.
- Participate in post-bid negotiations and clarification meetings.
- Review revised BOQs and client requirements.




- Support the project team during handover of successful tenders.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain tender files, BOQs, quotations, rate analysis, costing sheets and correspondence.
- Prepare tender comparison and management approval sheets.
- Maintain a database of historical project costs and rates for future estimates.
- Prepare periodic tendering and estimation reports for management.

Technical Skills Required

- Positive knowledge of Electrical Project Estimation and Costing.
- Understanding of HT/LT Electrical Systems, Panels, Transformers, DG, UPS, Cable Systems, Lighting, Earthing, Fire Alarm, ELV and related electrical works.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, SLDs, specifications and BOQs.
- Knowledge of quantity take-off and rate analysis.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, AutoCAD and MS Office.
- Knowledge of electrical standards, specifications and project requirements.
- Familiarity with EPC/MEP construction projects and tendering procedures.
- Ability to evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations.

Qualification & Experience

- Qualification: B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience: 2–6 years in electrical estimation, tendering, costing or MEP/EPC projects.
- Experience in commercial/industrial/building electrical projects will be preferred.
