Position’s overall objective
Leads HV engineering in India as the group competence centre for high voltage power supplies:
transformer-rectifier sets, high-frequency power converters and LV control and switching cabinets
(control panels, MCC, PLC panels and ATS). Is the technical authority for India, makes sure the global
engineering process for creation, review and approval is followed, builds the competences the team
needs, and delivers error-free engineering on time for Indian and international customers.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Technical authority for HV engineering in India: system architecture, design decisions, deviations and design risks across all HV products.
2. Designing / review of engineering for power electronics based HV products: transformer- rectifier sets (topologies, power semiconductor devices, heatsinks, transformer design, insulation, tank and conservator), high-frequency converters, switchgear, busbars and filters.
3. Ownership of LV control and switching cabinets: control panels, motor and heater cabinets, MCC, PLC panels and ATS, including switching and protection, I/O architecture, control philosophy, interlocks and communication interfaces. Specification, review and FAT of outsourced PLC and HMI software.
4. Lead the transfer of products and engineering work from group companies in Sweden and China to India, together with Global Engineering: transfer plans, knowledge transfer and handover sign-off per product.
5. Build and run the team as a competence pool: one owner per product, backup for every owner, competence matrix and development plan for every engineer. Develop the Team Lead and product owners as the next layer of leadership.
6.
Establish IEC and global standards in India as the senior authority. Own EPLAN macros, standard libraries and design rules, and introduce rule-based engineering over time.
7. Enquiry support: technical solution, pre-bid meetings, costing and compliance for domestic and international enquiries.
8. Own engineering KPIs: on-time release, first-time-right output and engineering hours per order. Responsible for the engineering budget and resource planning, including contract CAD resources.
9. Root cause analysis for product issues in India and globally; closure of NCR and corrective actions with Quality.
10. Coordination with R&D;, sales, purchase, production, testing, quality, after-sales and planning, and with the business unit and Global Engineering on priorities. Authorities
Final technical approval of designs, deviations and engineering release for HV products engineered in India.
Approve engineering standards, design rules and libraries for India, aligned with Global Engineering.
Allocate engineering resources and product ownership across the competence pool; engage contract CAD resources within the approved budget.
Budgeting process for the engineering department.
Guide the HR department to define JD, interview and shortlist engineering candidates.
Review the performance of team members for the appraisal process.
Stop release of engineering output that does not meet standards or customer specifications.
Visit customers, suppliers and group companies for technical work. Work activities
Design reviews for critical designs; validate the different solutions.
Lead knowledge transfer with group engineering experts and track the competence development of the team.
Work on strategic initiatives with R&D; and Global Engineering, including design investigations, documentation and preparation of guidelines.
Support the development and deployment of design tools such as EPLAN and CAD.
Handle cost reduction, value engineering and standardisation projects, including one standard transformer-rectifier design for domestic and global demand.
Review and validate designs against customer specifications and internal rules.
Improve the throughput time of internal engineering processes.
Annual budget and resource plan; share knowledge across group engineering locations.
Education:
BE / BTech / MTech in Electrical, Electronics or Power Electronics engineering.
Experience:
15+ years in engineering of power electronics or electrical power equipment, of which at least 5 years leading an engineering team of 10 or more.
Hands-on design experience with rectifiers, high-frequency converters or power supplies, transformers, and LV control and switching cabinets such as MCC, PLC panels and ATS. Experience of working with a global engineering organisation in a matrix structure.
