Job Description – Product Development (PD) Merchandiser

Job Summary

We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented, and proactive PD Merchandiser to manage the complete product development process, from concept and sampling to final product approval. The candidate will work closely with the design, sourcing, merchandising, and production teams to develop new products in line with market trends, buyer requirements, quality standards, and target costing.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage end-to-end product development from initial concept to final sample approval.
- Coordinate with the design team to develop new products, styles, and collections.
- Research market trends, competitor products, materials, colours, and designs.
- Source suitable fabrics, materials, trims, accessories, and packaging.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers for product development.
- Prepare and maintain tech packs, BOMs, specifications, measurement sheets, and costing sheets.
- Develop prototypes, samples, and product variations as per design requirements.
- Follow up on sampling timelines, material availability, and sample approvals.
- Ensure products meet design specifications, quality standards, and target costs.
- Work on product costing, material consumption, and cost optimisation.




- Coordinate with the production and quality teams to ensure smooth product execution.
- Maintain product development trackers, sample records, and approval status.
- Identify and resolve issues related to design, materials, quality, and development timelines.
- Ensure timely completion of product development for seasonal collections and buyer deadlines.

Required Skills

- Strong understanding of product development and merchandising processes.
- Knowledge of fabrics, materials, trims, product construction, and finishes.
- Ability to understand design concepts, sketches, reference images, and tech packs.
- Valuable knowledge of sampling, costing, sourcing, and vendor management.
- Strong coordination, follow-up, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of fashion trends and market research.

Preferred Candidate Profile

- 2–5 years of experience in product development or merchandising.
- Experience in a fashion brand, export house, or manufacturing organisation.
- Experience in developing garments, handbags, fashion accessories, or lifestyle products will be an advantage.
- Ability to work with design, sourcing, sampling, and production teams.

Salary: As per experience and industry standards.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
