Hiring: Software Engineer — Robotics & Data Infrastructure

Location: Bhubaneswar, Odisha | Full-time, In-person

About Northstar

Northstar is an early-stage robotics and Physical AI startup building systems for data collection, deployment monitoring, and human intervention.

We are looking for a hands-on Software Engineer who enjoys solving real-world technical problems across software, data, infrastructure, cameras, networking, and robotics.

You will work closely with the founders, robotics engineers, and operations team to build and maintain the systems that keep our data collection and deployment operations running reliably.

What you'll do

Data & Cloud Infrastructure

- Manage large video and sensor-data uploads to AWS S3
- Organize storage, verify transfers, recover failed uploads, and automate recurring workflows
- Maintain recording metadata, tagging, validation, filtering, and dataset packaging

Data Labeling & Computer Vision

- Maintain and improve data annotation and review platforms
- Troubleshoot imports, exports, permissions, APIs, and labeling workflows
- Run and improve video-processing pipelines for quality checks, motion analysis, hand detection, and other filtering tasks

Robotics & Teleoperation

- Set up and maintain teleoperation software and systems
- Work with camera streams, operator interfaces, device connections, session logging, and monitoring
- Troubleshoot integration, connectivity, and latency issues with robotics engineers

Cameras & Field Systems

- Configure cameras,



recording devices, and capture systems
- Troubleshoot recording failures and synchronization issues
- Support reliable data offloading and field data collection

Networking & IT

- Set up and troubleshoot Linux workstations, Wi-Fi/LAN, remote access, storage devices, and software
- Manage user access and resolve day-to-day technical issues

Backend & Internal Tools

- Build and maintain APIs, databases, dashboards, background jobs, and monitoring tools
- Improve internal tools used by engineering and operations teams

Reliability & Documentation

- Investigate technical incidents and implement permanent fixes
- Create clear setup guides, troubleshooting documentation, and operational procedures

This is not a purely desk-based software role. On a typical day, you could build an API, debug a data pipeline, fix an annotation workflow, troubleshoot a camera connection, or get a stalled upload running again.

What we're looking for

- Strong Python skills and evidence of building useful software
- Familiarity with Linux, Git, REST APIs, and SQL databases
- Practical experience with AWS/S3 or similar cloud infrastructure
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills




- Basic understanding of networking and system administration
- Willingness to work directly with cameras, computers, and other hardware
- Ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly and work independently
- Comfort supporting on-site teams and handling practical technical issues
- Strong ownership and a bias toward getting things working

Good to have

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

You do not need experience with every technology listed.

You may not know every technology when you join. What matters more is that you can debug, learn quickly, take ownership, and solve problems without waiting for someone else to tell you exactly what to do.
