Job Description: Control Panel Design Engineer
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Control Panel Design Engineer with strong expertise in electrical control panel design for semiconductor equipment / industrial automation systems. The candidate should have hands-on experience in preparing electrical schematics using E3S / E3.series, performing wire selection, load and power calculations, and ensuring design compliance with UL 508A standards.
The role involves working closely with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams to design, review, and release control panel documentation for semiconductor tools and related equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical control panels for semiconductor equipment and automation systems.
- Prepare and modify electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, and panel layouts using E3S / E3.series.
- Perform wire sizing, cable selection, fuse / breaker selection, and power distribution calculations.
- Carry out load calculations, power consumption analysis, voltage drop calculations, and heat dissipation checks for control panels.
- Select appropriate electrical components such as:
- Power supplies
- Circuit breakers
- Relays and contactors
- Terminal blocks
- Connectors
- Fuses
- Transformers
- PLC / I/O modules
- Safety devices
- Ensure panel designs are compliant with UL 508A, customer standards, and applicable electrical safety requirements.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including:
- Electrical schematics
- Bill of Materials — BOM
- Wire lists
- Cable schedules
- Terminal plans
- Panel assembly drawings
- Design change documentation
- Support design reviews, technical discussions, and issue resolution with internal and customer engineering teams.
- Work with manufacturing / assembly teams to resolve wiring, layout, and panel build-related issues.
- Review existing designs and propose improvements for cost reduction, manufacturability, reliability, and compliance.
- Support engineering change requests — ECR / ECO / ECN — related to control panel design.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery of engineering outputs.
Required Skills & Experience
- 4 to 8+ years of experience in electrical control panel design, preferably for semiconductor equipment, capital equipment, industrial automation, or manufacturing systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with E3S / E3.series for schematic design and electrical documentation.
- Good knowledge of electrical schematics, control wiring, power wiring, grounding, shielding, and interconnection design.
- Strong understanding of:
- Wire selection and wire sizing
- Current carrying capacity
- Voltage drop calculation
- Load calculation
- Power budget calculation
- Protection device selection
- Heat load / panel thermal considerations
- Working knowledge of UL 508A standards for industrial control panels.
- Experience in electrical component selection and BOM preparation.
- Ability to read and interpret customer specifications, electrical standards, and design guidelines.
- Good understanding of panel layout, segregation of power and control wiring, grounding practices, and safety requirements.
- Experience in working with engineering change management processes.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with global engineering teams.
Preferred / Positive-to-Have Skills
- Experience working with semiconductor OEMs / semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies.
- Knowledge of SEMI standards and cleanroom equipment design requirements.
- Experience with PLC-based control systems, I/O modules, sensors, actuators, safety circuits, and interlocks.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design tools.
- Understanding of UL, CE, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, or other electrical safety standards.
- Experience in control panel validation, troubleshooting, and manufacturing support.
- Knowledge of cable harness design, connector selection, and machine wiring practices.
- Exposure to SAP / PLM / Windchill / Teamcenter or similar engineering release systems.
