About the Role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team and build scalable backend services powering AI-driven healthcare products.

You will design, develop, test, deploy, and operate production-grade backend services using Java and Python, while contributing to microservices, distributed systems, APIs, observability, and system architecture.

This is a mid-level, high-ownership engineering role suited for someone who enjoys solving complex backend problems and taking ownership of features from design through production.

Key ResponsibilitiesBackend Development

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Java and Python.

- Build clean, well-tested, production-ready code.

- Take end-to-end ownership of features from design and development through deployment and production support.

- Develop and maintain REST APIs and event-driven services.

- Debug and resolve production issues with a solid focus on reliability and performance.

- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.

System Design & Architecture

- Design and evolve microservices and distributed systems.

- Apply strong understanding of scalability, availability, latency, consistency, and fault tolerance.

- Contribute to system design and architectural discussions.

- Prepare clear technical design documents and specifications.

- Design services with observability in mind, including logging, metrics, alerting, and tracing.

Quality & Engineering Practices

- Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.

- Own quality and test coverage for backend components.

- Define and monitor service-level metrics such as error rates, latency, and throughput.

- Participate in production support, incident resolution,



and post-incident reviews.

- Maintain technical documentation, API contracts, runbooks, and architecture decisions.

- Contribute to CI/CD and engineering automation.

Collaboration

- Work closely with engineering, AI/ML, product, and infrastructure teams.

- Collaborate effectively with distributed teams across India and the US.

- Communicate technical decisions, risks, dependencies, and timelines clearly.

- Take ownership of deliverables and drive features to completion independently.

Required Skills & Experience

- 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.

- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Python, both used in production.

- Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.

- Experience building and operating backend services handling real production/customer traffic.

- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, databases, Kafka/event-driven architecture, and backend service design.

- Strong System Design and OOP fundamentals.

- Understanding of concurrency, processes/threads, interfaces, and distributed architecture.

- Strong coding, algorithms, problem-solving, and debugging skills.

- Experience with Git/GitHub, pull requests, code reviews, branching strategies, and CI/CD.

- Experience owning backend components across design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and take complete ownership of assigned features.

Good to Have(816)

- Experience in a product-based company, SaaS organization, GCC, or strong engineering environment.

- Exposure to AI/ML, LLMs, conversational AI,



or production AI systems.

- Experience with AWS or Azure.

- Knowledge of observability tools such as Grafana, CloudWatch, or OpenTelemetry.

- Experience with healthcare technology or other regulated industries.

- Understanding of HIPAA, data privacy, audit logging, or compliance requirements.

- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar tools.

- Experience working with high-scale production systems.

Ideal Candidate Profile

- Strong backend specialist, not a generalist/full-stack profile.

- 3–5 years of relevant professional experience.

- Strong Java + Python combination.

- Hands-on production/SaaS experience.

- Experience with microservices and distributed systems.

- Has independently owned a backend service or significant backend component.

- Strong engineering fundamentals and coding ability.

- Demonstrated stability, ideally 2–3+ years with previous employers and evidence of growth or increasing responsibility.

- Candidates from product companies, SaaS companies, GCCs, FAANG/similar organizations, and backend-focused startups are preferred.

Not a Fit

- Freshers or candidates with only academic/side-project experience.

- Lead/Senior/Architect-level profiles.

- Primarily Full-Stack or hybrid profiles without strong backend depth.

- Candidates focused primarily on hardware drivers, embedded systems, network OS/switches, desktop add-ins, lab automation, or on-device ML models.

- Candidates without hands-on production backend experience.
