The Senior Quality Management System Engineer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding product integrity, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety across our manufacturing network. Working closely with the Head of Quality, the engineer is tasked with building a QMS that not only meets the rigorous demands of IATF 16949 for automotive quality but also aligns with ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 45001 occupational health and safety standards. This multi‑disciplinary responsibility requires a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, the ability to translate standards into actionable processes, and the skill to lead cross‑functional teams toward continuous improvement.

Key duties include the end‑to‑end development of QMS documentation, from policy statements to detailed work instructions. The engineer will establish measurable quality objectives, monitor performance through key performance indicators, and present findings to senior leadership on a regular cadence. By translating data into insight, the role ensures that quality trends are identified early and that corrective actions are both effective and sustainable.

Auditing is a core component of the position. The engineer will schedule and conduct both internal and external audits, evaluating compliance with quality, environmental, and safety standards. Audit findings are documented in detailed reports that highlight non‑conformities, root‑cause analyses, and recommended corrective and preventive actions. The engineer then oversees the implementation of CAPA plans,

ensuring that corrective measures are verified for effectiveness and that preventive steps are embedded into future processes.

Application of advanced quality tools is essential. The engineer will employ Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) during product design, manage Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, oversee Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, and drive 8D problem‑solving initiatives when issues arise. These methodologies help reduce risk, improve first‑time quality, and accelerate time‑to‑market.

In addition to traditional quality responsibilities, the role includes stewardship of the organization’s environmental performance. The engineer will calculate greenhouse‑gas emissions, prepare EcoVadis sustainability assessments, and manage CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) reporting. By integrating environmental metrics into the QMS, the engineer supports corporate sustainability goals and enhances the company’s reputation with customers and regulators.

Collaboration is a daily requirement. The engineer works with product development, manufacturing, supply chain, and health‑and‑safety teams to embed quality and sustainability practices throughout the product lifecycle. This includes providing training on audit procedures, quality tools, and sustainability reporting, as well as mentoring junior staff to build internal capability.

Staying current with industry trends and regulatory updates is also part of the job. The engineer monitors changes in automotive quality standards, environmental legislation, and occupational health and safety regulations, recommending updates to the QMS to maintain compliance and drive best‑in‑class performance.
