Position Summary
The Draftsman supports the sales cycle by converting customer requirements and site inputs gathered by the Field Sales Engineer into concept layout drawings and BOQs (Bill of Quantities) used for customer proposals and costing. The role reports to the Sales Head and works closely with the Field Sales Engineer through the proposal and negotiation stages. Once an order is confirmed, the Draftsman formally hands over the final customer-approved design and BOQ to the Production Designer, ensuring the production team has complete, unambiguous technical inputs to generate production and installation drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Drawing & Proposal Support
• Prepare concept/proposal-level OT layout drawings based on inputs from the Field Sales Engineer and customer/site data.
• Develop layout options and specifications to support technical presentations to customers.
• Revise proposal drawings promptly as customer feedback and negotiations progress.
BOQ & Costing Support
• Prepare accurate BOQs (panels, LAF/HEPA units, doors, viewing panels, hardware, electricals) from proposal drawings to support costing and quotation.
• Update BOQs as design/scope changes during the sales cycle; maintain version control of drawings and BOQs per proposal.
• Support the Sales Head/Field Sales Engineer with technical clarifications during customer negotiations.
Order Handover to Production
• On order confirmation, compile the final customer-approved design and BOQ into a complete, clearly documented handover package.
• Formally coordinate with the Production Designer to transfer all design intent, customer approvals, and BOQ details needed to generate production-ready fabrication drawings.
• Clarify any design ambiguities raised by the Production Designer during the handover and early production-drawing stage.
• Maintain a log of all handovers with dates and version references for traceability.
Documentation & Coordination
• Maintain an organized drawing and BOQ register for every proposal/chance, won or lost.
• Coordinate with the Sales Head on proposal templates, standard layouts and pricing-linked drawing formats.
• Support tender documentation with technical drawings/BOQs as required.
Key Result Areas (KRA)
1. Proposal Turnaround
• Deliver concept layout drawings and BOQs within the agreed turnaround time for each proposal.
• Keep proposal revision cycles within the sales team's target turnaround.
2. Accuracy
• Ensure BOQs accurately reflect the proposed layout with minimal costing corrections post-submission.
• Zero critical errors in customer-facing proposal drawings.
3. Handover Quality
• 100% of won orders handed over to the Production Designer with complete, unambiguous design and BOQ documentation.
• Zero production drawing delays attributable to incomplete or unclear sales-to-production handover.
4. Documentation & Coordination
• Maintain a fully updated drawing/BOQ register with version history for every proposal.
• Resolve Production Designer's handover queries within the same working day.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Proposal drawing/BOQ turnaround time
• BOQ accuracy (variance between proposal and final production BOQ)
• On-time, complete handover rate to Production Designer
• Production drawing rework attributable to handover gaps
• Drawing/BOQ documentation and version-control compliance
Candidate Requirements
Education
• Diploma/ITI in Mechanical, Civil, Architecture, or Draftsmanship. B.E./B.Tech is an advantage.
Experience
• 1–2 years as a draftsman/design executive, ideally with pre-sales, estimation or BOQ preparation experience in fabrication, interior fit-out, or infrastructure projects.
• Exposure to modular OT, cleanroom, prefab panel systems or similar turnkey projects is a strong plus.
Knowledge & Skills
• Basic understanding of engineering civil drawing with grip over mathematics & understanding of unit conversion.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D); working knowledge of 3D tools (SketchUp/Revit) is an advantage for customer-facing visuals.
• Strong BOQ preparation skills linked to drawings and specifications.
• Ability to interpret site/requirement notes from sales personnel and translate them into accurate layouts.
• Basic understanding of modular OT components (panels, LAF/HEPA, doors, viewing panels) to prepare realistic proposals.
Behavioral Attributes
• Fast turnaround ability to support a time-sensitive sales cycle.
• High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in BOQ preparation.
• Strong coordination skills able to work closely with both the Field Sales Engineer (pre-order) and the Production Designer (post-order handover).
• Clear documentation and version-control discipline.
