Job SummaryThe Solar Technician will be responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems at residential, commercial, and ground-mounted project sites. The technician must ensure that all work is completed safely, as per approved drawings, technical standards, and project timelines.
- Key Responsibilities1. Solar PV InstallationInstall solar PV modules, mounting structures, rails, clamps, and related components.
- Carry out DC and AC cable laying, dressing, routing, termination, and crimping.
- Install and connect DCDB, ACDB, isolators, SPDs, earthing, and other electrical equipment.
- Install solar inverters and complete DC/AC connections as per the approved SLD.
- Ensure proper module alignment, tilt, orientation, and structure installation.
- Assist in installation of cable trays, conduits, junction boxes, and electrical accessories.
- 2. Electrical WorkPerform DC and AC cable termination using appropriate tools and lugs.
- Check polarity, continuity, insulation resistance, voltage, and current.
- Perform proper earthing and bonding of modules, structures, inverter, and electrical panels.
- Assist in testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
- Identify and rectify loose connections, cable faults, tripping issues, and other electrical problems.
- 3. Testing & CommissioningAssist the Project Engineer during plant commissioning.
- Conduct pre-commissioning checks of modules, cables, structures, inverter, ACDB/DCDB, and earthing.
- Record voltage, current, insulation resistance,
and other required test parameters.
- Assist in inverter configuration and synchronization with the grid.
- Ensure the plant is operating safely and efficiently after commissioning.
- 4. Maintenance & TroubleshootingCarry out preventive and corrective maintenance of solar plants.
- Identify faults in modules, cables, inverters, ACDB/DCDB, SPDs, and other equipment.
- Attend inverter alarms and electrical faults and coordinate with the Project Engineer for major issues.
- Perform replacement of defective components where authorized.
- Support periodic inspection and maintenance of rooftop and ground-mounted solar plants.
- 5. Solar Module CleaningPerform module cleaning as per the project's cleaning schedule.
- Ensure proper cleaning without damaging modules, cables, connectors, or structures.
- Report damaged, cracked, discolored, or defective modules to the supervisor.
- 6. Site SafetyFollow all company and site-specific safety procedures.
- Use PPE such as safety helmet, safety shoes, gloves, safety harness, and other required equipment.
- Follow proper safety procedures while working at height and near electrical equipment.
- Maintain safe working conditions and immediately report unsafe conditions.
- Never carry out electrical work without proper isolation and authorization.
- 7.
Tools & MaterialsProperly handle and maintain electrical and installation tools.
- Maintain tools, testing instruments, PPE, and equipment issued by the company.
- Avoid wastage or damage of project materials.
- Report shortages, damaged materials, or additional requirements to the site supervisor.
- 8. Site Coordination & ReportingCoordinate with Project Engineer, Site Supervisor, contractors, and other technicians.
- Complete assigned work within the project schedule.
- Provide daily work updates to the reporting manager.
- Report site issues, material requirements, manpower requirements, and technical problems.
- Maintain basic records of installation, maintenance, testing, and repair activities.
- 9. DocumentationAssist in maintaining daily site reports and work completion records.
- Record equipment serial numbers and other required technical details.
- Assist in preparing testing and commissioning reports.
- Follow approved SLD, layout drawings, installation procedures, and company SOPs.
- Required SkillsBasic knowledge of solar PV systems and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of DC and AC electrical connections.
- Ability to read basic electrical drawings and SLDs.
- Knowledge of solar modules, inverters, ACDB, DCDB, SPD, earthing, and cables.
- Ability to use basic electrical tools and testing instruments.
- Valuable troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit and comfortable working at height and outdoor project sites.
- Willingness to travel to project locations as required.
Experience Experience: 0–3 years in Solar PV installation / electrical work
