Ready to scale enterprise Generative AI products from prototype to production?
Why join us?
HSBC Productivity Suite is our AI-powered workspace used by 250,000 colleagues across the bank. We’re now moving beyond conversational generative AI to build intelligent agents and integrations that connect colleagues with trusted enterprise knowledge, services and workflows.
You’ll join a global engineering team solving complex problems at significant scale, with the opportunity to shape how AI is designed, governed and used across HSBC. This is a hands-on technical leadership role with real influence over architecture, engineering standards and product direction.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a senior individual contributor who will provide hands-on technical leadership across one or more engineering pods and mentor engineers in Pune. This is not a people-management role: success will come through engineering expertise, architecture leadership, delivery and influence across teams. The role will own significant integrations, help define the Productivity Suite technical strategy and roadmap, and support adoption in India and neighbouring markets. This is a deeply hands-on role: you’ll be expected to spend more than 50% of your time designing, coding, testing and deploying software
What you’ll do:
- Spend more than half your time on hands-on engineering, writing, reviewing and deploying production code for HSBC Productivity Suite.
- Design and build production-grade generative AI capabilities and integrations, working across architecture, code, testing, deployment and ongoing operation.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering pods through direct contribution, setting technical direction and solving the most complex engineering problems.
- Shape technical strategy and roadmaps, translating ambiguous business problems into measurable outcomes and practical engineering plans.
- Improve reusable capabilities, frameworks, tooling and engineering standards, including the effective use of agentic AI across the software development lifecycle.
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews and code reviews, without formal line-management responsibility.
- Lead from the front on production support and incident response, ensuring services meet availability, performance, resilience and scalability expectations.
- Work with product, engineering, business and operations leaders, influencing priorities through evidence and technical expertise.
What you’ll need to succeed in the role:
- Deep, hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong record of designing, coding and operating user-facing products at scale.
- Advanced use of AI coding tools such as Git Hub Copilot and Claude Code to prototype, write, test and review code safely, alongside experience building agents that improve the software development lifecycle.
- Strong Python expertise and practical knowledge of modern engineering practices, including APIs, microservices, databases, containers and continuous integration and delivery, and modern front-end development using React.
- Hands-on experience taking AI, machine learning and generative AI solutions from experimentation through to secure, reliable production use.
- Strong practical knowledge of large language models, prompt engineering, agentic workflows, evaluation, guardrails, observability and responsible AI.
- Experience leading through technical expertise and influence - setting direction, solving complex engineering problems and mentoring others while remaining a hands-on individual contributor.
- Experience designing and operating cloud-based services using platforms such as Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to turn ambiguous business problems into measurable outcomes and practical technical solutions.
Building HSBC’s AI engineering capability
This is a chance to shape how enterprise AI engineering is built and scaled across HSBC. You’ll create the platforms, patterns and delivery discipline that help teams move from experimentation to production with confidence. The work spans technology and business outcomes with explicit accountability for quality, reliability and measurable value. If you’re ready to help set direction for GenAI at enterprise scale we’d welcome your application.
