Plant Manager – Biomass Pellet Manufacturing Plant

About the Company

Grams and Kiloz Pvt Ltd is an established agri-commodity trading and processing company expanding into the renewable energy sector with a 5 TPH biomass pellet manufacturing plant at SIPCOT, Manamadurai.

The plant will manufacture biomass pellets using agricultural and forestry residues such as Prosopis Juliflora, maize cobs, cotton stalks and other suitable biomass feedstocks.

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Plant Manager to take complete responsibility for the day-to-day operations and performance of the Manamadurai manufacturing facility.

Job Summary

The Plant Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the manufacturing plant, including:

- Production
- Raw material planning
- Plant operations
- Manpower
- Machinery
- Maintenance
- Quality
- Inventory coordination
- Safety
- Dispatch
- Cost control
- Production planning
- Daily MIS

The candidate must be capable of independently managing a manufacturing plant and achieving production, quality and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities1. Overall Plant Operations

- Manage complete day-to-day operations of the biomass pellet plant.
- Ensure smooth and continuous plant operations.
- Plan and achieve daily, weekly and monthly production targets.
- Monitor plant capacity utilization.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure optimum utilization of machinery, manpower and resources.
- Maintain discipline and productivity across the plant.

2. Production Management

Manage the complete pellet manufacturing process including:

Raw Material → Chipping/Shredding → Drying → Grinding → Conditioning → Pelletizing → Cooling → Screening → Packing → Finished Goods

Responsibilities include:

- Prepare daily production plans.
- Monitor hourly production.
- Monitor machine performance.
- Track production efficiency.
- Monitor raw material consumption.
- Control production losses and wastage.
- Maintain production records.
- Ensure achievement of production targets.
- Improve plant throughput and operational efficiency.

3. Raw Material Management

Coordinate with Purchase and Stores teams for continuous availability of raw materials.

Raw materials may include:

- Prosopis Juliflora
- Maize cobs
- Cotton stalks
- Paddy residues
- Other agricultural biomass

Responsibilities:

- Estimate daily/weekly raw material requirements.
- Monitor raw material quality and moisture.
- Ensure proper unloading and storage.
- Monitor raw material stock.
- Minimize material losses.
- Ensure proper feeding of raw material into production.
- Coordinate with Purchase for shortages and quality issues.

4. Biomass Quality & Moisture Management

- Check incoming biomass quality.
- Monitor moisture levels of raw materials.
- Ensure proper drying and moisture control.
- Maintain required finished pellet moisture.
- Monitor GCV and other relevant quality parameters.
- Maintain consistency in pellet quality.




- Coordinate with laboratory/quality personnel where required.

5. Pellet Quality

Ensure finished pellets meet customer specifications regarding:

- Diameter
- Moisture
- GCV
- Ash
- Bulk density
- Durability
- Fines
- Consistency

Maintain batch-wise quality records and immediately address quality deviations.

6. Machinery & Maintenance

- Ensure preventive maintenance of all plant machinery.
- Coordinate with Maintenance/Mechanical/Electrical teams.
- Monitor breakdowns and downtime.
- Maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain critical spare-parts inventory.
- Analyse recurring machine breakdowns.
- Reduce unplanned downtime.
- Ensure proper lubrication and maintenance practices.

7. Manpower Management

- Plan manpower requirements for the plant.
- Manage operators, helpers, technicians, supervisors and contract labour.
- Prepare shift schedules.
- Monitor attendance and productivity.
- Train employees on operating procedures.
- Maintain workplace discipline.
- Evaluate employee performance.
- Ensure adequate manpower for each shift.

8. Safety Management

Ensure strict implementation of plant safety procedures.

Responsibilities include:

- PPE compliance
- Fire safety
- Electrical safety
- Machine safety
- Dust control
- Hot-work safety
- Material handling safety
- Emergency procedures
- Housekeeping
- Safety training

Ensure the plant operates in accordance with applicable statutory and environmental requirements.

9. Inventory & Stores Coordination

Work closely with the Stores and Finance teams to monitor:

- Raw material stock
- Finished goods
- Packing materials
- Spare parts
- Consumables
- Diesel
- Lubricants
- Maintenance materials

Ensure physical stock and system records are properly reconciled.

10. Dispatch & Logistics

Coordinate with Sales/Commercial teams for timely customer dispatches.

Responsibilities include:

- Finished goods availability
- Vehicle planning
- Loading
- Weighment
- Dispatch documentation
- Customer specifications
- Delivery schedules
- Loading loss control

Ensure dispatches are completed on time and accurately.

11. Cost Control

Work closely with the Finance Manager to control manufacturing costs.

Monitor:

- Raw material consumption per MT
- Electricity consumption per MT
- Diesel consumption
- Labour cost
- Maintenance cost
- Production wastage
- Machine downtime
- Packing cost
- Overall production cost per MT

The Plant Manager will be responsible for improving plant efficiency and reducing manufacturing cost per MT.

12. Daily Plant MIS

Prepare and submit daily production reports covering:

- Raw material opening stock
- Raw material received
- Raw material consumed
- Production quantity
- Rejection/wastage
- Finished goods stock
- Dispatch quantity
- Machine running hours
- Machine downtime
- Power consumption
- Moisture
- Production efficiency
- Manpower attendance
- Maintenance issues





Key Performance Indicators

The Plant Manager will be measured on:

Required Experience

5–10 years of experience in plant/manufacturing operations, preferably in:

- Biomass pellet manufacturing
- Briquette manufacturing
- Agro-processing
- Wood processing
- Rice mills
- Food processing
- Feed mills
- Textile manufacturing
- Engineering/manufacturing plants
- Renewable energy manufacturing

Direct experience in biomass pellet/briquette production will be strongly preferred.

Technical Knowledge Preferred

Candidates with knowledge of the following will be preferred:

- Biomass processing
- Pellet mills
- Hammer mills
- Chippers/shredders
- Dryers
- Conveyors
- Cyclones
- Dust collection systems
- Boilers
- Electrical systems
- Preventive maintenance
- Production planning
- Industrial safety
- Quality control

Experience with 5 TPH or larger pellet/briquette plants will be an advantage.

Qualification

- B.E./B.Tech – Mechanical / Production / Electrical / Industrial Engineering
- Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Electrical Engineering
- B.Sc./B.Tech with relevant manufacturing experience may also be considered.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a hands-on Plant Manager who is comfortable being on the shop floor.

The candidate should:

- Take ownership of plant performance.
- Be capable of managing operators and technicians.
- Understand machinery and production processes.
- Be comfortable working in shifts when required.
- Have strong problem-solving skills.
- Be disciplined and process-oriented.
- Have robust leadership and communication skills.
- Be capable of working under production targets.
- Have strong coordination skills with Purchase, Finance, Sales and Management.

SIPCOT, Manamadurai, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu

Salary

₹5,00,000 – ₹9,00,000 per annum, depending on experience and suitability.

Higher compensation may be considered for candidates with strong direct experience in biomass pellet manufacturing.
