Job Description – Jewelry Merchandiser
Department: Merchandising
Reporting To: Director / Partner
Location: Pune Head Office, with regular showroom and vendor visits across Maharashtra
Experience: 5–8 years
Role Purpose
The Jewelry Merchandiser will be responsible for assortment planning and stock allocation across multiple showrooms. The role involves understanding customer requirements, sales patterns and showroom feedback to develop product briefs, replenishment plans and collection strategies.
The role will focus on balancing customer choice, product availability, profitability and inventory productivity.
Key Responsibilities1. Assortment & Showroom Planning
- Develop showroom-wise assortment plans based on category, collection, occasion, customer profile, price band, weight band, size, purity and design style.
- Plan gold, diamond, silver and daily-wear ranges including bridal, heritage, temple jewellery, mangalsutra, necklaces, bangles, earrings and rings.
- Develop core, seasonal and trial assortments along with minimum presentation quantities and replenishment parameters.
- Identify opportunities in lightweight daily-wear gold, studded silver and other emerging categories.
2. Customer Demand & Product Gaps
- Analyse sales records, lost sales, customer requests, repeat purchases and showroom feedback to identify product gaps.
- Conduct regular showroom visits to understand customer buying behaviour.
- Track competitor collections, design trends and local occasions and convert insights into product recommendations.
3. Buying Briefs & Collection Development
- Prepare detailed product briefs covering quantities, design references, weight and price bands, sizes, launch dates and replenishment priorities.
- Coordinate with Purchase for product sourcing based on approved merchandise requirements.
- Review samples for design relevance, wearability, finish,
customer value and commercial viability.
- Pilot current collections and evaluate their performance before wider rollout.
4. Inventory & Commercial Management
- Monitor stock and sales in pieces, grams and value.
- Track stock age, sell-through, stock turn, stock-to-sales ratios, stockouts and assortment duplication.
- Recommend inter-showroom stock transfers based on demand and inventory levels.
- Develop action plans for slow-moving stock through transfers, assortment correction, vendor exchange or redesign.
- Plan inventory for festivals, weddings and promotional campaigns in coordination with Sales and Marketing.
- Review category contribution, gross margin, discount impact and inventory carrying costs with Finance.
5. Product Presentation & Information
- Define collection grouping and product display priorities.
- Coordinate with showroom teams to ensure effective implementation of assortment and display plans.
- Maintain accurate product attributes and collection information in the ERP.
- Provide Sales and Marketing teams with product briefs covering design story, target customer, occasion, weight range and price positioning.
Key Performance Areas
- Improve product availability and reduce recurring stock gaps.
- Improve stock turn and sell-through while reducing aged inventory.
- Improve assortment relevance based on customer demand and showroom performance.
- Ensure buying briefs, launches and inventory actions are completed on time.
- Maintain accurate product classification and inventory information.
- Manage inventory within approved budgets.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: 5–8 years in merchandising, category planning or buying within organised jewellery retail, preferably across multiple stores.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of jewellery design, purity, weight bands, sizing, making charges, vendor lead times and customer buying occasions.
- Substantial experience in gold jewellery is required.
- Proven ability to improve assortment availability and reduce aged inventory.
- Strong analytical and Excel skills; experience with ERP systems is required. Power BI knowledge is an advantage.
- Graduate qualification required. Education in jewellery, merchandising, retail management or gemology will be an advantage.
- Robust communication skills in Marathi, Hindi and English.
- Willingness to travel regularly to showrooms and vendors.
First 90 Days
Days 1–30 – Learn
- Understand customers, collections, existing inventory and stock processes.
- Visit showrooms and establish baseline availability and stock-age measures.
Days 31–60 – Plan
- Prepare showroom assortment plans and buying briefs.
- Identify priority product gaps and develop an aged-stock action plan.
Days 61–90 – Execute
- Implement approved assortment pilots and stock actions.
- Measure results and refine replenishment and assortment strategies.
- Establish a regular merchandise performance review.
Working Rhythm
- Weekly: Review product gaps, stockouts, transfers and replenishment.
- Monthly: Review category performance, aged stock, budget utilisation and collection performance.
- Before major seasons: Finalise merchandise quantities, delivery milestones and showroom readiness.
Pay: ₹75,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
