Madukkarai

Nesans Mining and Automation Private Limited is a Coimbatore-based manufacturer of crushing, screening, washing and conveying equipment.

We serve the aggregates and mineral processing industry in India and in export markets.

Design, fabrication, machining, assembly and testing are carried out in-house at our Madukkarai works.

Built for Today, Engineered for Tomorrow.

Role purpose

The Quality Engineer makes sure every machine leaving the Madukkarai works meets the drawing, the specification and the customer order.

The role owns inspection at three gates: incoming material, in-process work and final dispatch.

No material is accepted, no job moves to the next stage and no machine is dispatched without quality clearance.

The role also finds the cause of every defect and makes sure it does not repeat.

Key responsibilities
1. Incoming inspection

- Inspect plates, sections, castings, forgings, bearings, motors and bought-out parts against the purchase order and drawing.
- Verify material test certificates for grade, chemistry and mechanical properties.
- Check dimensions, hardness and visual condition on receipt.
- Clear or reject each receipt in the ERP on the same day.
- Tag and segregate rejected material. Raise the rejection with Purchase and the supplier.

2. In-process inspection: fabrication

- Inspect fit-up before welding for dimensions, squareness, gaps and alignment.
- Inspect welds for size, profile and visual defects.
- Check finished fabrications for distortion and critical dimensions.
- Arrange DPT, MPT or UT on critical welds and parts as the quality plan requires.

3. In-process inspection: machining

- Approve the first piece before the batch runs.
- Check machined parts for dimensions, fits, surface finish and geometric tolerances.
- Inspect shafts, bearing housings, bores and keyways with the correct instrument.

4. Painting inspection

- Check surface preparation before painting.
- Measure dry film thickness (DFT) and record it.
- Check shade,

finish and coverage against the order.

5. Assembly and final inspection

- Check bearing fits, alignment, clearances and bolt torque during assembly.
- Witness the no-load trial run. Record bearing temperature, vibration, noise and current.
- Complete the pre-dispatch inspection checklist for every machine.
- Verify nameplate, serial number, accessories, spares and packing against the order.
- Release the machine for dispatch only after all open points are closed.

6. Non-conformance and corrective action

- Raise a non-conformance report (NCR) for every defect found.
- Decide the disposition with Design and Production: rework, repair, use-as-is or reject.
- Find the root cause using 5 Why or fishbone analysis.
- Follow up the corrective action until it is closed and verified.

7. Supplier and subcontractor quality

- Inspect job-work and subcontracted parts, at the vendor's works where needed.
- Give suppliers explicit feedback on rejections.
- Maintain supplier quality ratings and share them with Purchase.

8. Calibration

- Maintain the master list of measuring instruments and gauges.
- Make sure every instrument is calibrated on schedule and carries a valid sticker.
- Remove damaged or overdue instruments from use.

9. Documentation and standards

- Prepare and update quality plans, inspection checklists and work instructions.
- Maintain inspection reports, test certificates and NCR records order-wise.
- Compile the quality dossier for customer and export orders.
- Support internal audits, customer inspections and third-party inspections.

10. Customer complaints and field failures

- Analyse site complaints and warranty failures with the Service team.
- Feed the findings back to Design, Production and suppliers.

11. Reporting

- Submit a weekly quality report to management.
- The report covers rejections, rework, open NCRs and repeat defects.

12. Shop floor quality culture

- Train shop floor employees on drawing reading, inspection points and workmanship standards.
- Follow all safety rules and use PPE during inspection work.

Qualification and experience

- B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Production or Metallurgical Engineering.
- 2 to 5 years in quality control or quality assurance.
- Experience must be in heavy fabrication, machining or capital equipment manufacturing.
- Experience with crushing, screening, material handling or construction equipment is an added advantage.
- NDT Level II certification (DPT, MPT or UT) is an added advantage.
- ISO 9001 internal auditor training is an added advantage.

Skills and attributesTechnical skills

- Reads fabrication, machining and assembly drawings confidently.
- Understands GD&T;, limits, fits and tolerances.
- Knows welding symbols, weld defects and acceptance criteria.

- Understands steel grades and can read a material test certificate.
- Knows root cause tools: 5 Why, fishbone, Pareto and 8D.
- Has working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
