Purchase Engineer

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Engineer with 5–6 years of experience in the equipment/manufacturing industry. The candidate will be responsible for vendor development, sourcing, cost negotiation, purchase planning, order management, and ensuring timely availability of materials as per production requirements while maintaining quality and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities

- Handle procurement of fabricated components, machined components, bought-out items, electrical components, hydraulic/pneumatic items, fasteners, raw materials, and other equipment-related components.
- Study BOMs, engineering drawings, specifications, and material requirements before initiating procurement.
- Identify and develop new suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery capability, capacity, and technical requirements.
- Negotiate price, payment terms, delivery schedules, transportation, warranty, and other commercial conditions with suppliers.
- Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with approved requirements.
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials as per production/project schedules.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Quality, Stores, Design/Engineering, and Accounts departments for procurement requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance with respect to quality, delivery, cost, and responsiveness.
- Resolve issues related to short supply, rejection, quality problems, delayed deliveries, and material discrepancies.




- Develop alternate sources for critical and high-value components to reduce supply-chain risks.
- Maintain appropriate supplier database, quotation records, PO records, and procurement documentation.
- Support cost reduction and value-engineering initiatives through supplier development and alternate sourcing.
- Analyze purchase prices and market trends for key materials/components.
- Coordinate with Quality for supplier inspection.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company procedures and approved vendor policies.
- Monitor open POs and pending deliveries and provide regular procurement status reports.

Required Technical Skills

- Good knowledge of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, fabrication, laser cutting, bending, welding, casting, forging, etc.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs, material specifications, and technical requirements.
- Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical industrial equipment components.
- Strong understanding of vendor development and supplier evaluation.
- Good negotiation and cost-analysis skills.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and purchase modules.
- Positive working knowledge of MS Excel and preparation of comparative statements/MIS reports.
- Understanding of GST, basic commercial terms, payment terms, and purchase documentation.
- Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001 is desirable.

Educational Qualification

- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

- 5–6 years of relevant experience in purchase/procurement, preferably in an equipment manufacturing, machinery manufacturing, engineering, or industrial manufacturing company.
- Experience in purchasing machined, fabricated, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other engineering components will be preferred.
