JOB DESCRIPTION – BASKETBALL COACH

Position: Basketball Coach

Department: Sports / Physical Education

Location: GIG International School, Vijayawada

Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time

Experience: 2–5 years in coaching basketball, preferably in a school or academy environment

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and experienced Basketball Coach to train and develop our school students. The coach will be responsible for conducting structured training sessions, developing students' basketball skills, preparing teams for competitions, and promoting discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and conduct regular basketball coaching and practice sessions for students.

- Train students in fundamental basketball skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, rebounding, and game strategies.

- Identify and develop talented students for school-level and inter-school competitions.

- Prepare school basketball teams for tournaments, competitions, and sports events.

- Develop age-appropriate training programs based on students' skill levels.

- Monitor and evaluate students' performance and provide constructive feedback.

- Maintain discipline, safety, and positive sportsmanship during training sessions and competitions.

- Organise and conduct basketball trials and team selections.

- Coordinate with the PE Department, teachers, and school management regarding sports activities.

- Maintain records of student participation, attendance, performance, and achievements.

- Ensure proper use, maintenance,



and safe handling of sports equipment.

- Accompany students to inter-school competitions, tournaments, and sports events when required.

- Encourage students to develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, and a competitive spirit.

- Follow all school policies, child safeguarding requirements, and safety procedures.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor's degree / Diploma / Certification in Physical Education, Sports, Basketball Coaching, or a related field.

- Recognised basketball coaching certification will be an advantage.

- Previous experience coaching school students or youth teams is preferred.

- Strong knowledge of basketball rules, techniques, tactics, and training methods.

- Valuable communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to motivate and work effectively with children and teenagers.

- Strong leadership, discipline, patience, and team-management skills.

- First Aid / CPR certification will be an added advantage.
