Job Summary

The Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician supports product functional testing by preparing, assembling, installing, and dismantling test articles and associated test equipment. The role is responsible for instrumentation installation, test-cell setup, test execution support, preliminary troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory and test-cell equipment.

The position requires a robust understanding of engine test-cell operations, engine components, test equipment, and established testing procedures to ensure safe, reliable, and accurate test results. The technician works closely with engineers, project teams, and other stakeholders and may support 24/7 test operations.

Key Responsibilities

Test Article Preparation & Functional Testing

- Prepare test articles, engines, fixtures, rigs, and associated equipment in accordance with approved test plans and procedures.

- Assemble and disassemble engines and test articles according to test requirements.

- Install instrumentation on test articles in accordance with applicable engineering standards and test requirements.

- Conduct and monitor engine/product functional tests as defined by the test plan and established test methodologies.

- Understand the operation of the product under test and test equipment to assess their impact on the validity and quality of test results.

- Set up and configure test equipment, instrumentation, and supporting systems to meet test requirements.

- Perform test stand installation, modifications, and setup activities as required.

- Install and remove engines from test cells safely and efficiently.

Test Equipment, Data & Troubleshooting

- Verify equipment readiness and calibration before testing and perform tests according to approved procedures or work instructions.

- Support data acquisition and ensure test data is accurate, complete, and traceable.

- Prepare clear test documentation covering test methods, equipment/instrument settings, results, and relevant observations.

- Perform preliminary troubleshooting of test-cell, engine, instrumentation, and equipment issues.

- Identify potential causes of test or equipment issues and escalate complex problems to the appropriate engineering or technical teams.

- Support the selection and integration of appropriate test equipment, instrumentation, and software based on test requirements.

- Identify and correct data-quality issues that could affect test results or engineering decisions.

Test Cell & Laboratory Maintenance

- Maintain and upkeep test cells, laboratory equipment, fixtures, rigs, tools, and associated infrastructure.

- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities based on equipment condition, maintenance records, and established procedures.

- Support modifications and improvements to test-cell systems and equipment.

- Maintain good housekeeping and organization within the test-cell and work areas.





- Support continuous improvement activities related to test equipment reliability, test setup, and laboratory operations.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

- Follow all applicable health and safety requirements, including risk assessment, LOTO, and established test-cell safety practices.

- Ensure testing and maintenance activities comply with applicable Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.

- Participate actively in TBWS and other safety and continuous improvement activities.

- Identify and report safety risks, equipment issues, and potential hazards and support corrective actions.

- Ensure test setups and activities comply with applicable environmental and local safety requirements.

- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with established quality and testing processes.

Collaboration & Operations

- Work effectively with project managers, engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders to support testing activities and resolve issues.

- Communicate test status, equipment conditions, issues, and results clearly to relevant stakeholders.

- Support 24/7 test-cell operations as required.

- Contribute to team objectives and provide support for additional laboratory and testing activities as needed.

Qualifications

- High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

- A regionally applicable technical certification or a two-year Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field may be required.

- Relevant education or training in mechanical, automotive, electrical, instrumentation, or other applicable technical disciplines is preferred.

- Some relevant work experience with intermediate technical knowledge gained through education, training, or on-the-job experience is required.

- This position may require licensing or compliance with applicable export control or sanctions regulations.

Skills & Experience

- Experience working in an engine test-cell, laboratory, manufacturing, or similar technical environment.

- Intermediate knowledge of engine test-cell operations and engine components.

- Hands-on experience with engine assembly, disassembly, installation, and removal for testing.

- Knowledge of test-cell equipment, instrumentation, fixtures, rigs, and test setups.

- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of engines, test cells, instrumentation, and related equipment.

- Understanding of test procedures, test plans, data acquisition, equipment calibration, and test-result quality.

- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

- Ability to interpret technical instructions, drawings, test procedures, and equipment documentation.

- Familiarity with AVL-PUMA test-cell systems is an advantage.

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to prepare and maintain test documentation.

- Robust communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

- Knowledge of QMS, safety practices, risk assessment, and LOTO requirements.

- Ability and willingness to support 24/7 test-cell operations when required.

- Strong focus on housekeeping, safe work practices, data quality, and adherence to established procedures.
