Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Engineer - Estimation & Costing to prepare accurate cost estimates and BOQs that support our project proposals, tenders, and budgets. This role plays a key part in ensuring our commercial bids are competitive and our project costing is accurate, working closely with Design, Planning, Procurement, and Business Development teams.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation & BOQ Preparation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for interior fit-out projects based on drawings, specifications, and BOQ documents
- Assist in identification, preparation, and analysis of rates for Non-BOQ items
- Prepare quantity take-offs from architectural/interior drawings for accurate estimation
- Support estimation of rates as per BOQ specifications, coordinating with the Planning (PFC) team
Rate Analysis & Benchmarking
- Conduct rate analysis for materials, labour, and specialized work items
- Benchmark rates against historical project data and current market rates
- Maintain and update a rate database/library for common fit-out items
- Support cost comparison and value engineering exercises
Vendor & Subcontractor Costing Support
- Collect and evaluate vendor/subcontractor quotations for cost comparison
- Support techno-commercial evaluation of vendor proposals
- Coordinate with the procurement team to validate material and labour costs
- Assist in preparing comparative cost statements for management review
Proposal & Tender Support
- Support the Business Development team with costing inputs for proposals and RFP submissions
- Prepare cost summaries and budgetary estimates for pre-sales and feasibility studies
- Assist in preparing techno-commercial proposals with accurate cost breakdowns
- Support tender documentation with costing schedules and bills of quantities
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of all cost estimates, rate analyses, and BOQ documents
- Prepare cost estimation reports and variance analysis against approved budgets
- Support audit trails for costing documentation and approvals
- Coordinate with the accounts and planning teams for budget reconciliation
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with the Design team to understand project scope and specifications for costing
- Work closely with the Planning team (PFC) for rate estimation and project costing alignment
- Liaise with Project Managers for site-specific cost inputs and variations
- Support commercial discussions with inputs on cost implications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- 2-4 years of experience in cost estimation, quantity surveying, or a related role, preferably in interior fit-out or construction
- Experience preparing BOQs and cost estimates for construction/interior projects
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel for cost analysis and estimation
- Familiarity with estimation/costing software or ERP-based costing tools
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD for reading drawings and quantity take-offs
- Understanding of BOQ, rate analysis, and construction cost components
Core Competencies
