SM-Engineering Manufacturing
Manufacturing Engineering Head (Senior Manager)
Role Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, high-ownership Head (Senior Manager) of Manufacturing Engineering to drive shop-floor excellence, cost optimisation, and design re-engineering for our appliance lines. In this role, you will bridge the gap between product design and factory floor execution, including OEM. You will directly own initiatives to maximise line efficiency, optimise Bill of Materials (BOM), streamline assembly processes, and re-engineer existing product designs to drive aggressive cost and speed optimisation without compromising quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Line Efficiency & Productivity: Analyse shop-floor layouts, tackle assembly bottlenecks, and implement line balancing to drastically improve cycle times and floor productivity.
- Design Re-Engineering: Lead value engineering and design-for-cost initiatives. Re-engineer components and sub-assemblies to optimise for manufacturing speed and reduce unit economics.
- BOM Optimisation: Own the manufacturing Bill of Materials (BOM). Audit, clean up, and continuously optimise BOM structures to reduce material waste and component costs.
- Cost-Effective Assembly: Evaluate current assembly workflows and implement smarter fixtures, tooling, or semi-automation to make assembly processes highly repeatable and cost-effective.
- NPI & Engineering Changes: Seamlessly transition new product variants from prototype to mass production line readiness, while managing strict Engineering Change Notices (ECN/ECO).
- Process Standardisation: Define standard operating procedures (SOPs),
establish clear manufacturing work instructions, and ensure discipline on the shop floor.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Act as the vital link between Design/R&D;, Quality, Procurement, and Plant Operations to resolve technical floor issues instantly.
- Data-Driven Optimisation: Monitor daily floor KPIs (e.g., OEE, yield, cycle time) to identify root causes of inefficiencies and deploy immediate corrective actions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
- Certifications: Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, VSM (Value Stream Mapping), or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is highly preferred.
- Approach: A strictly hands-on professional who spends significant time on the shop floor working directly with engineers, operators, and line supervisors.
Key Competencies
- Deep expertise in Design for Manufacturing / Assembly- DFM/DFA and Value Engineering (VAVE).
- Exceptional understanding of time-and-motion studies, line balancing, and waste reduction.
- Sharp technical acumen in appliance assembly processes, sheet metal, plastics, or electronics integration.
- Pragmatic problem-solving skills with a focus on manufacturing unit economics.
- Strong cross-functional influence to align design teams with shop-floor realities.
What the Role Offers / Key KPIs
- High Impact: Direct ownership over the profitability and output speed of major appliance product lines.
- Innovation & Autonomy: Freedom to challenge existing designs, rebuild assembly workflows, and test current tooling/fixtures.
- Key Performance Metrics: Evaluated against Line Efficiency (%) improvement, BOM cost reduction achieved, Assembly conversion cost optimization, and Time-to-market for re-engineered variants.
