Job Title: PLC Design Engineer

Location: Vasai /Bandra

Reporting To: Head of International Projects / Senior Project Manager

Job Purpose:

The PLC Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, programming, and commissioning of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems for international wastewater treatment projects. The role requires deep technical expertise in PLC programming and control systems, specifically tailored for wastewater treatment processes. The engineer will work closely with the project management, electrical, and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems in plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

- PLC System Design and Development:
- Design, configure, and program PLC systems for wastewater treatment plants, ensuring the proper control and automation of plant processes.
- Develop control strategies, process flow diagrams, and functional specifications for plant automation.
- Select appropriate PLC hardware and software platforms based on project requirements.
- Create logic diagrams, control narratives, and wiring schematics as per international standards.
- Design Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for plant control and monitoring.
- Programming and Testing:
- Program PLC systems using industry-standard programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), or Structured Text (ST).
- Perform simulation, testing, and debugging of control programs to ensure they meet process requirements and performance standards.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for control systems before and after installation.
- Modify and optimize PLC programs during commissioning and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Integration with Plant Operations:
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to ensure smooth integration of PLC systems with mechanical systems, instrumentation, and equipment.
- Design control systems that ensure proper coordination between pumps, valves, flow meters, pressure sensors, and other instrumentation within wastewater treatment plants.
- Implement safety protocols and fail-safe systems to ensure operational safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Commissioning and Troubleshooting:
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and startup of PLC systems at international project sites.
- Travel to project locations for on-site support and commissioning of control systems.
- Conduct on-site troubleshooting, fault finding, and optimization of PLC and control systems to ensure effective plant operations.




- Provide technical support to clients and the operations team during commissioning and post-installation.
- Project Coordination and Documentation:
- Work closely with project managers and clients to gather and interpret project requirements related to control systems.
- Prepare detailed documentation, including PLC logic diagrams, HMI/SCADA screens, I/O lists, and control panel layouts.
- Ensure that all designs and installations comply with international safety standards and client specifications.
- Provide training and handover documentation to the operations team and plant operators on the use and maintenance of PLC systems.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Research and implement the latest technologies and trends in PLC systems and automation within the wastewater treatment industry.
- Continuously improve control system designs to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
- Analyze process data from existing systems to identify areas for optimization and efficiency improvements.

Key Skills and Competencies:

- PLC Programming Expertise: Proficient in programming PLCs from leading manufacturers such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Brewmax or similar platforms. Expertise in languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, or Sequential Function Chart.
- SCADA and HMI Systems: Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI programming, and designing operator interfaces for real-time control and monitoring.
- Control System Design: Ability to design and implement complex control systems, including process control, PID loops, and interlocks for wastewater treatment operations.
- Instrumentation Knowledge: Strong understanding of field instruments (e.g., flow meters, level sensors, pressure transmitters) and their integration with control systems in wastewater treatment processes.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, especially when troubleshooting control system issues during commissioning and operation.
- Communication and Collaboration: Robust interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, international clients, and contractors.
- Technical Documentation: Ability to create and maintain detailed technical documentation for PLC systems, control strategies,



and instrumentation.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 2-10+ years of experience in PLC programming and control system design, specifically in the wastewater treatment industry. Experience in Pharma/Tanneries/Desal /distilleries systems will be helpful.
- Experience in designing, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC systems for large-scale wastewater or industrial water treatment plants.
- Proven experience working on international projects, with a strong understanding of global standards and best practices for industrial automation.
- Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Siemens (S7 series), Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, or other equivalent systems.
- Hands-on experience in integrating PLCs with SCADA systems and plant instrumentation.
- Post E&C; process he should be able to monitor the O&M; processes to assist operators with any program faults that are likely to arise.
- Should be familiar with International Standards and regulations.
- Should have a good grounding in Control Panel/VFD/SMPS/DC mode/SPP and cabling layouts.
- Should have good communication skills and client /vendor management skills
- Certifications: Any relevant certifications in PLC programming, industrial automation, or instrumentation engineering will be a plus.

Preferred Experience:

- Experience in designing control systems for advanced wastewater treatment processes such as Membrane Filtration, Reverse Osmosis (RO), or other effluent treatment technologies.
- Knowledge of international safety standards, such as IEC, OSHA, and NFPA for electrical systems and controls.
- Experience working with cross-functional international teams and clients across multiple countries.

Work Environment:

- The role will be office-based with frequent travel to international project sites for system commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Candidates must be comfortable working in varied environments, including industrial wastewater treatment plants and construction sites.

- Efficient integration of PLC systems with plant equipment, ensuring seamless operations.
- On-time project delivery within budget and to the highest quality and safety standards.
- Effective troubleshooting and problem resolution during commissioning and ongoing plant operations.

Pay: ₹150,000.00 - ₹800,000.00 per year
