About the Role
Leena AI is an agentic AI platform for the enterprise. Many of our customers run their core people processes on Workday (worker data, time off, time tracking, payroll, compensation, hiring, onboarding), and a growing number run finance there too. They want agentic AI that can safely act inside Workday, not just answer questions about it.
We are hiring a Lead Workday Specialist Architect to be the technical owner of how Leena AI integrates with customer Workday tenants. You will not be administering an internal Workday tenant. You will define and build the productized, out-of-the-box integrations that let our AI agents read from and act inside any customer's Workday, across HCM, Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll, Recruiting, Talent, Help and Financials. You will also build the AI agents themselves on top of Workday APIs, taking a customer business process such as a leave request, a job change or a timecard fix and running it end to end.
This is a high-leverage role at the intersection of product, engineering and the field. You will work with Product and Engineering to build deep, reusable Workday integrations into our platform. You will work with Professional Services and Solution Architects to land them in customer tenants. And you will work directly with customers to understand their Workday processes and turn them into agentic AI use cases.
What You'll Do
Own the Workday Integration Strategy
• Define the target architecture for how Leena AI connects to customer Workday tenants: authentication, data access, action execution, eventing and governance.
• Pick the right integration method for each use case: Workday Web Services (SOAP), Workday REST APIs, Reports-as-a-Service (RaaS), EIB, Workday Studio, Core Connectors, and Workday Extend / Orchestrate.
• Design the least-privilege security footprint we ask customers to approve: Integration System Users (ISUs), integration security groups, domain and business process security policies, and OAuth 2.0 API clients.
• Decide when an agent should act as a system account and when it should act on behalf of the employee, and how each choice shows up in Workday's security model and audit trail.
• Make build-vs-partner decisions for connectors, Workday Extend apps and ecosystem listings (including Workday Marketplace).
Build AI Agents on Top of Workday APIs
• Build AI agents that solve customer business processes on Workday end to end: understand the employee's request, check eligibility and policy, complete the transaction through Workday APIs, and confirm the outcome.
• Break each process into agent tools (the Workday API calls and reports an agent can use) and step-by-step instructions (our Agent Operating Procedures) that tell the agent which tool to use when, what to ask, and when to hand off to a person.
• Build in guardrails: validate data before any write, confirm changes with the employee, and let Workday's own approvals and security decide what goes through.
• Turn agents proven with one customer into pre-built agents other customers can switch on, and track how they perform in production (completion rate, errors, hand-offs).
Drive Out-of-the-Box Integrations with Product & Engineering
• Partner with Product Managers and Engineering leads to define the Workday integration roadmap: what we build natively, what we expose to admins, what we leave configurable.
• Translate Workday concepts (business objects, business processes, supervisory organizations, security domains, calculated fields,
custom reports) into clean product abstractions our AI agents can reason over.
• Design integrations that respect Workday business processes: start the right business process, honor its conditions, routing and approvals, and report status back to the employee.
• Write technical specs, sit in design reviews, and prototype in sandbox tenants to de-risk delivery.
• Champion robustness: idempotency, error handling, throttling awareness, observability, and resilience to Workday's twice-yearly releases and API version changes.
Discover and Shape Customer Use Cases
• Engage directly with customers to map their Workday landscape: modules in use, custom business processes, reports, security setup, and connections to other systems.
• Convert Workday processes into agentic AI use cases: personal data updates, time off and leave requests, timecard fixes, employment and visa letters, job and compensation changes, contingent worker updates, onboarding and offboarding, payslip and expense queries, and HR case resolution.
• Build a library of validated Workday + agentic AI use cases, each with the APIs, reports and permissions it needs, that PS, Sales and Customer Success can take to market.
• Bring patterns and gaps back into the product roadmap as a continuous feedback loop.
Partner Closely with Professional Services
• Work side-by-side with the PS / Solution Architecture team during customer implementations: scoping, tenant discovery, security setup, and the hardest integration problems.
• Set delivery standards, configuration playbooks and reference implementations (ISU setup, RaaS report templates, API client setup) so PS can deploy faster and more consistently.
• Be the escalation point for complex Workday integration issues in active deployments.
• Coach PS engineers and solution architects on Workday best practices and on the Leena AI integration stack.
Engineering Leadership
• Raise the technical bar for Workday expertise across product, engineering and field teams.
• Mentor developers, integration engineers and solution architects.
• Represent the integration in customer architecture conversations, security reviews with HRIS and InfoSec teams, and executive briefings.
Requirements
• 8+ years of total experience, including 5+ years designing and building integrations on or with Workday at enterprise scale (on a customer HRIS team, at a Workday partner, or at Workday).
• Deep, hands-on expertise in Workday HCM and at least one of Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll, Recruiting, Talent, Benefits, Help or Financials.
• Strong command of Workday integration tooling: Workday Web Services (SOAP), REST APIs, RaaS and advanced custom reports, calculated fields, EIB, Workday Studio, Core Connectors and Document Transformation, plus XSLT / XPath.
• Comfortable writing code (Python, Java or JavaScript) to call Workday APIs, shape the data, and prototype the tools an AI agent uses.
• Solid understanding of the Workday business process framework: definitions, conditions, routing, approvals, delegation,
and how business processes behave when started through an API.
• Deep knowledge of Workday security: ISUs, security groups (role-based, user-based, constrained vs unconstrained), domain and business process security policies, and OAuth 2.0 API client setup.
• Experience building productized, multi-tenant integrations against Workday, i.e. one connector that has to work across many customer tenants, each with its own custom business processes, fields and reports.
• Strong product sense: able to work with PMs to turn integration capabilities into clean, configurable product features.
• Customer-facing maturity: comfortable in discovery, technical workshops and architecture reviews with HRIS, IT and InfoSec teams.
• Solid understanding of identity standards (SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SCIM) and how enterprises put SSO in front of Workday.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to move fluently between engineers, PMs, PS and customer stakeholders.
Nice to Have
• Workday certification in Integrations, Studio, Extend or HCM (usually earned while working at a Workday partner or at Workday).
• Experience building Workday Extend apps or Orchestrate flows, or publishing on Workday Marketplace.
• Experience with Workday Financials integrations (accounts payable, expenses, procurement), Prism Analytics or Adaptive Planning.
• Integration experience with other HCM systems (SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, UKG, Dayforce) and a clear view of the trade-offs between them.
• Hands-on experience building AI agents, LLM-powered automation or conversational AI on top of enterprise APIs. Deep Workday knowledge matters more; we can teach the agent side.
• Background working in regulated environments (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA), including the handling of sensitive employee data.
What Success Looks Like in Next 12 Months
• A documented, productized Workday integration architecture that engineering builds against and PS deploys against.
• A standard, least-privilege Workday setup package (ISU, security groups, API client, report templates) that customers can approve and stand up quickly.
• A clear Workday integration roadmap, co-owned with Product and Engineering, with shipped out-of-the-box connectors and agent actions.
• Live AI agents running real customer business processes on Workday (for example time off, worker data changes and employment letters), reused across customers as pre-built agents.
• A validated library of Workday + agentic AI use cases driving measurable customer outcomes (HR ticket deflection, time to resolution, employee CSAT, cost-to-serve).
• PS teams self-sufficient on standard Workday integrations, with you focused on the hardest customer problems and the next wave of capabilities.
• Leena AI recognized in the Workday ecosystem as a serious agentic AI partner, ideally including a formal partnership or Marketplace listing.
