Data Center Support Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Data Center Support Engineer with hands-on experience working in data center environments. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of physical IT infrastructure, data center hardware, network cabling and first-level incident support.
The candidate will be responsible for supporting day-to-day data center operations, including hardware installation, decommissioning, moves, cabling, troubleshooting and replacement of failed hardware components.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hands-on activities within the Data Center environment, including installation, decommissioning, relocation and maintenance of IT equipment.
- Work with physical IT infrastructure such as servers, network equipment, storage systems and related hardware.
- Perform server/network hardware installation, rack & stack, equipment moves and cable management.
- Provide first-level technical support during incidents and assist with hardware troubleshooting and replacement.
- Replace Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) such as: Power Supply Units (PSUs), Hard Disk Drives (HDDs/SSDs), SFPs/transceivers and Other replaceable hardware components.
- Perform network cabling installation, testing, troubleshooting and cable management.
- Identify and troubleshoot physical connectivity and hardware-related issues.
- Follow established data centre operational procedures, safety standards and security requirements.
- Understand the risks and criticality associated with working on equipment in a live data centre environment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of hardware installations, moves, changes, cabling and incident activities.
- Coordinate with internal teams,
remote support teams and other stakeholders to resolve data centre incidents.
- Travel between data centre sites within the metro area, whenever required.
- Be adaptable to work non-business hours, including weekends and public holidays, based on operational requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience working in a Data Centre environment.
- Working knowledge of physical IT infrastructure, including: Servers, Network equipment, Storage systems and Rack-mounted equipment.
- Hands-on experience in IT hardware installation, decommissioning, relocation/moves and network cabling.
- Hands-on experience replacing hardware components such as PSUs, HDDs/SSDs, SFPs and other FRUs.
- Practical experience with network cabling installation, testing and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of data centre operations, safety procedures and the criticality of physical infrastructure.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and work effectively in a controlled data center environment.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to work shift hours, weekends and public holidays when required.
- Willingness to travel occasionally between data centre sites within the metro area.
- Ability to work independently as well as coordinate effectively with technical teams.
- Candidates with experience supporting enterprise or large-scale data center environments will be preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant Data Center experience
Preferred Profile: Candidates who have previously supported enterprise data centres, network infrastructure, server infrastructure, hardware break/fix, rack & stack or data centre operations will be preferred.
