Middleware Administrator / J2EE

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Middleware Administrator / J2EE Engineer with 58 years of experience in middleware administration, application server management, performance tuning, and production support. The candidate will be responsible for managing and supporting enterprise middleware environments, ensuring application availability, stability, performance, and timely resolution of production issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot J2EE/middleware environments.
- Manage application servers such as IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, and Apache Tomcat.
- Perform application deployments, configuration changes, server restarts, patching, and environment maintenance.
- Monitor middleware and application server health, availability, resource utilization, and performance.
- Perform performance tuning of application servers and JVMs, including heap, garbage collection, thread pools, connection pools, and other relevant parameters.
- Analyze logs, thread dumps, heap dumps, and other diagnostic information to identify and resolve application/middleware issues.
- Provide L2/L3 production support for business-critical applications.
- Troubleshoot incidents related to application availability, connectivity, performance, deployment, and server failures.
- Participate in incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Work closely with application development, database, infrastructure, network,
and other support teams to resolve issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or critical production issues.
- Support application releases, deployments, and production change activities.
- Ensure middleware environments comply with operational, security, and availability standards.
- Participate in on-call/shift support and handle critical production incidents when required.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Identify opportunities for automation and improvement of middleware administration and support processes.
Required Skills
- 5–8 years of experience in J2EE / Middleware Administration and Production Support.
- Strong hands-on experience with one or more of:
- IBM WebSphere Application Server
- Oracle WebLogic Server
- JBoss / WildFly
- Apache Tomcat
- Good understanding of J2EE architecture and application server concepts.
- Strong knowledge of JVM administration and performance tuning.
- Experience with application deployment, server configuration, clustering, and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, SSL/TLS, TCP/IP, DNS, and networking concepts.
- Experience in analyzing application/server logs and troubleshooting production issues.
- Knowledge of thread dumps, heap dumps, garbage collection, memory management, and connection/thread pools.
- Strong incident management and problem-solving skills.
- Positive understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems and shell commands.
- Experience working in enterprise production environments with high availability and critical applications.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Good to Have
- Experience with middleware monitoring tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of scripting/automation using Shell, Python, or Ansible.
- Exposure to CI/CD and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Git, or similar platforms.
- Experience with WebSphere Network Deployment / WebLogic clusters / JBoss domains.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Exposure to container technologies such as Docker/Kubernetes.
- ITIL/process-oriented production support experience.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant middleware/application server certifications are an advantage.
