About the Role

Bajaj Capital is building its digital insurance platform end-to-end buy journeys for Health, Life and Motor insurance on the web, and a shared API layer that powers the same journeys in our mobile app. As Technical Lead, you will own architecture and delivery across a blended team of in-house developers and implementation vendors, code alongside them, integrate with multiple insurers, and run an AI-native engineering practice where AI tools are used to build, test, deploy and operate the platform.

Key Responsibilities

AI-Native Development & Delivery

- Build primarily with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or approved equivalents) across UI, API and infrastructure code; set up AI-ready repos with shared agent instructions (CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md), prompts and templates that vendors must also follow.
- Use AI for spec-driven development, insurer API mapping, test generation, PR review in CI, IaC and pipeline authoring, release notes, log analysis and incident RCA — with human review and ownership of every change.
- Enforce AI guardrails: approved tools only, no customer data, health declarations or secrets in prompts, no unattended merges or deploys, and extra scrutiny on payments, pricing and data access.

Insurance Buy Journeys (Web)

- Health: member and cover selection, quote comparison, medical/PED declarations, proposal, KYC, payment and policy issuance.
- Life: needs-based cover, term/savings quotes, benefit illustrations, proposal, e-KYC, medicals scheduling, e-sign and payment.
- Motor: vehicle lookup, IDV, NCB and add-ons, quote comparison, renewals, break-in inspection flows and instant issuance.
- Build in React/Next.js (TypeScript)



with a shared design system, SSR/SEO, Core Web Vitals, accessibility, funnel analytics, drop-off recovery and A/B testing.

API Platform & Integrations (Node.js)

- Design and build Node.js (NestJS/Fastify) APIs with OpenAPI contracts, reused by web and the mobile app, with versioning, security and backward compatibility.
- Build an insurer integration layer that normalises quote, proposal, payment and policy APIs across insurers and aggregators; handle timeouts, retries, idempotency and reconciliation.
- Integrate payment gateways, CKYC/e-KYC, e-sign, communication services, CRM and the data warehouse; orchestrate long-running journeys (e.g., AWS Step Functions).

Vendor & Team Leadership

- Lead in-house developers and vendor teams as one engineering unit: define scope, acceptance criteria and architecture guardrails; review vendor code to the same standards as in-house code.
- Ensure Bajaj Capital owns code, IP and infrastructure; enforce documentation and knowledge transfer so the platform is never vendor-locked.
- Mentor in-house developers through pairing and reviews; own sprint planning, estimates and releases with Product and Business.

AWS, DevOps, Security & Compliance

- Own the AWS architecture (ECS Fargate/Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora PostgreSQL, S3, CloudFront, KMS, WAF) in Indian regions, fully in Terraform/CDK, with CI/CD, observability and on-call.
- Build to OWASP ASVS/API Top 10 and PCI-DSS-aligned payment practices; protect health and personal data per the DPDP Act 2023, IRDAI guidelines and SEBI CSCRF, with InfoSec and Compliance.
- Maintain complete audit trails of quotes,



disclosures, consents and proposals for regulatory and claims needs.

Technology Stack

- Web: React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind/design system, TanStack Query, Playwright, Jest/RTL.
- Backend & AWS: Node.js, NestJS/Fastify, PostgreSQL, Redis, SQS/SNS, Step Functions, ECS/Lambda, Terraform/CDK, GitHub Actions.
- AI: Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Amazon Q Developer, MCP integrations (Jira, GitHub, Figma, AWS), Amazon Bedrock.

Required Qualifications

- 8 to 12 years in software engineering, including 3+ years with React/Next.js and 3+ years building production Node.js/TypeScript APIs.
- Has delivered high-conversion, transactional web journeys (insurance, lending, payments or e-commerce) with third-party API integrations.
- Hands-on AWS experience operating production workloads with infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
- Demonstrable experience shipping production software with AI coding agents, with concrete examples of workflows and results.
- 2+ years as a Tech Lead who has managed vendor/implementation partners alongside in-house teams; still codes regularly.
- Robust grasp of web and API security, OAuth 2.0/OIDC and handling of sensitive personal data. B.Tech/B.E./MCA in Computer Science or equivalent.

Good to Have

- Insurance broking, web aggregator or insurer tech experience; familiarity with insurer APIs and IRDAI distribution requirements.
- Experience with benefit illustration engines, underwriting rules, motor pricing or renewal journeys.
- LLM features in products (e.g., plan comparison assistants on Amazon Bedrock) with evaluations and guardrails; AWS certification.

Success in the First Year

- Health, Life and Motor buy journeys live on web and consumed by the mobile app, with multiple insurers integrated and strong conversion.
- A single in-house plus vendor team delivering through AI-assisted workflows, with full code ownership at Bajaj Capital and no vendor lock-in.
