Qualification: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech with Industrial Safety or EHS qualification preferred
Job Summary
The EHS Officer / Executive will be responsible for implementing and monitoring Environment, Health & Safety practices across the factory. The role includes workplace safety inspections, risk assessments, incident prevention, fire and emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, statutory documentation, employee safety training, and audit support.
The candidate should ensure that all employees, contractors, and visitors follow company safety requirements and applicable legal and regulatory standards.
Roles & Responsibilities
Health & Safety
Conduct regular workplace safety inspections across production, assembly, machining, warehouse, utility, office, and common areas.
Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA).
Recommend corrective and preventive actions for identified risks.
Monitor use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, helmets, gloves, goggles, ear protection, and safety harnesses.
Ensure proper implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Monitor machine guarding and safe operating practices.
Ensure safe material handling and workplace housekeeping.
Conduct daily and periodic safety observations.
Support implementation of permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities.
Monitor contractor safety compliance.
Fire & Emergency Safety
Maintain fire extinguishers, hydrants, alarms, emergency lights, and fire safety equipment.
Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
Coordinate annual fire extinguisher servicing.
Maintain fire safety inspection and service records.
Conduct emergency evacuation drills and fire mock drills.
Ensure emergency exits are accessible and properly marked.
Maintain emergency evacuation plans and assembly point information.
Coordinate with fire safety vendors and external agencies.
Maintain emergency contact lists.
Support emergency response activities during incidents.
Incident & Accident Management
Record all accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Investigate workplace incidents and identify root causes.
Prepare incident investigation reports.
Implement corrective and preventive actions.
Track closure of safety observations and incident actions.
Maintain accident and incident statistics.
Communicate lessons learned to employees and management.
Occupational Health
Support first-aid arrangements and medical emergency response.
Maintain first-aid boxes and required medicines/materials.
Coordinate employee medical check-ups where applicable.
Maintain occupational health and medical records as required.
Coordinate with hospitals, insurance providers, and medical service providers during emergencies.
Monitor workplace conditions that may affect employee health.
Environmental Management
Monitor hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling.
Maintain waste inventory and disposal records.
Ensure proper waste segregation, storage, labeling, and disposal.
Coordinate with authorized waste disposal vendors.
Maintain hazardous waste manifests and supporting documents.
Monitor water, electricity, fuel, and other resource consumption.
Support environmental improvement initiatives.
Maintain records related to pollution control and environmental compliance.
Monitor chemical and restricted substance handling.
Chemical Safety
Maintain chemical inventory.
Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS/MSDS) are available for chemicals used in the facility.
Ensure proper labeling and storage of chemicals.
Monitor chemical handling practices.
Ensure suitable PPE is used during chemical handling.
Conduct chemical spill response awareness and training.
Maintain spill kits in required areas.
Safety Training
Conduct safety induction for new employees and contract workers.
Conduct toolbox talks and periodic safety training.
Provide training on:
PPE
Fire safety
Emergency evacuation
LOTO
Chemical safety
Manual handling
Working at height
Electrical safety
Machine safety
Maintain training attendance records.
Display safety posters, instructions, and awareness materials.
Contractor Safety
Verify contractor safety documentation before starting work.
Conduct contractor safety induction.
Monitor contractors during work.
Ensure contractors use appropriate PPE.
Verify work permits for high-risk activities.
Report contractor safety violations.
Maintain contractor safety records.
Permit to Work
Manage and monitor permit systems for activities such as:
Hot work
Working at height
Electrical work
Confined space work
Excavation
Maintenance work
Lifting activities
Ensure work begins only after proper authorization and required safety controls are implemented.
Audit & Documentation
Prepare and maintain EHS documentation for internal and external audits.
Maintain safety inspection checklists.
Maintain incident and near-miss records.
Maintain corrective action trackers.
Maintain fire safety inspection records.
Maintain training records.
Maintain waste management records.
Maintain emergency drill records.
Maintain PPE issue records.
Maintain contractor safety documentation.
Support customer, statutory, management, and third-party audits.
Follow up and close audit findings within the agreed timeline.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
Support compliance with applicable factory, safety, fire, environmental, and labour requirements.
Maintain statutory EHS records and registers.
Coordinate with external consultants and government authorities when required.
Track expiry and renewal dates of safety-related licenses, certificates, and approvals.
Ensure required inspection certificates are available and valid.
Daily EHS Activities
Factory safety walk.
PPE compliance check.
Machine and equipment safety observation.
Fire safety equipment check.
Housekeeping inspection.
Emergency exit inspection.
Contractor work monitoring.
Unsafe condition reporting.
Follow-up on open corrective actions.
Support employee safety concerns.
Required Skills

Qualification & Experience
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related engineering field.
Diploma / Certification in Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, or EHS preferred.
2–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience handling factory audits and EHS documentation preferred.
