Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based, patient-centered nursing care in accordance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, and physician orders.
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, identify patient needs, develop individualized nursing care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Monitor patients' clinical condition, recognize early signs of deterioration, initiate timely interventions, and escalate concerns to the treating team.
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, blood and blood products, and prescribed treatments safely in accordance with medication safety guidelines.
- Perform nursing procedures including IV cannulation, catheterization, wound care, tracheostomy care, suctioning, enteral feeding, specimen collection, oxygen therapy, ECG recording, and other specialty-specific procedures.
- Assist physicians during bedside procedures, emergency interventions, and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
- Ensure safe admission, transfer, referral, discharge, and continuity of patient care.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely nursing documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR/HIS).
- Ensure effective patient handover using standardized communication tools such as SBAR.
- Educate patients and their families regarding disease condition, treatment plan,
medications, procedures, discharge care, rehabilitation, and follow-up instructions.
- Maintain effective communication with consultants, resident doctors, allied health professionals, and support services to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Ensure compliance with patient identification protocols, informed consent processes, medication safety practices, and infection prevention guidelines.
- Implement patient safety initiatives including fall prevention, pressure injury prevention, secure patient handling, pain management, and restraint protocols.
- Follow standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, hand hygiene, aseptic techniques, PPE usage, and biomedical waste management practices.
- Participate in Code Blue, Code Red, Code Pink, disaster management, and other emergency response activities.
- Identify, document, report, and escalate medication errors, adverse events, near misses, patient falls, pressure injuries, and other patient safety incidents.
- Guide, mentor, and support junior nursing staff, newly recruited nurses, nursing students, and trainees during clinical practice.
- Assist in orientation, competency assessment, bedside teaching, and skill development of nursing staff.
- Supervise and coordinate nursing activities during the assigned shift in the absence of the Nursing In-Charge.
- Prioritize patient assignments based on patient acuity, nursing workload, and staff competency as delegated.
- Ensure availability and operational readiness of emergency equipment, crash carts, monitors, infusion pumps, oxygen supply, suction apparatus, and other patient care equipment.
- Monitor inventory of medications, consumables, linen, and patient care supplies, and report shortages or equipment malfunction.
- Participate in nursing audits, documentation audits, medication audits, infection prevention audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with Nursing Quality Indicators (NQIs), hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), and evidence-based quality improvement projects.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to ethical, legal, and professional nursing standards.
- Participate in mandatory training programs, continuing nursing education, competency assessments, certification programs, and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate leadership, accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and effective time management while ensuring high standards of nursing practice.
- Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by the Nursing In-Charge, Nurse Supervisor, or Nursing Administration in accordance with organizational requirements.
