Role Overview

LKQ Europe is building on an exciting and challenging growth path in its digital development. Being part of LKQ Corporation, the company is number one in the automotive aftermarket industry. The company is transitioning into harmonization of different subsidiaries into ONE LKQ organization. This requires alignment and standardisation. IT is organised globally and regionally. Globally IT is organised into functional and regional teams split within North America and Europe. The European functional teams are defined as: IT Service Desk, IT Infrastructure Management, IT security (which align with the global IT strategic planning & governance function), business relationship management, analytics & business intelligence, enterprise application management, customer application management and IT innovation and service centre (ISC) (which report to the European director of IT). The customer application management team is directed by the European Director of Customer Application Management and is responsible for the customer facing applications.

To further strengthen our digital capabilities and accelerate our cloud transformation, we are looking for an experienced DevOps Architect to join our architecture team.
As a DevOps Architect, you will play a key role in defining, evolving, and governing the end-to-end architecture of our customer-facing applications, digital platforms, and backend microservices. You will ensure that our solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, maintainable, and aligned with our overall technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities

- Define and maintain the end-to-end cloud architecture blueprint for customer-facing applications, backend microservices, and supporting infrastructure.
- Design scalable, secure, resilient, and highly available AWS cloud architectures across multi-account and multi-region environments.
- Architect cloud networking solutions using AWS VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPC Peering, VPN, and hybrid connectivity.
- Define network architecture covering IP addressing, subnetting, routing, NAT, firewalls, network segmentation, and security controls.
- Design and govern routing and connectivity solutions using static routing, BGP, route propagation, and high-availability patterns.
- Provide architectural direction for microservices, APIs, integrations, and cloud-native services.
- Lead the investigation and resolution of complex cloud and network connectivity issues across distributed environments.
- Define cloud architecture principles, standards, reference architectures, and reusable design patterns.
- Drive automation and Infrastructure as Code practices using technologies such as Terraform and GitLab CI/CD to manage cloud infrastructure consistently at scale.
- Evaluate new cloud technologies and services and provide recommendations aligned with business and technology strategy.




- Support application modernization and migration initiatives, ensuring solutions follow established cloud, security, networking, and operational standards.
- Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, security, infrastructure, and product teams from solution design through implementation.
- Identify architectural risks, technical dependencies, performance constraints, and opportunities for optimization.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineering teams while contributing to the strategic technology roadmap.

Required Skills & Experience

- Solid hands-on experience designing and implementing solutions on AWS.
- Strong experience with AWS networking services, including VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPC Peering, and hybrid connectivity solutions.
- In-depth understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, NAT, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, and network security principles.
- Practical experience with static routing, BGP, route propagation, and highly available network architectures.
- Experience designing and troubleshooting connectivity across multi-account and multi-region AWS environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, network segmentation, identity and access principles, resilience, availability, and performance.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD tooling, such as GitLab CI/CD, for automated infrastructure deployment and management.
- Good understanding of microservices, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities, particularly across complex cloud infrastructure and networking environments.
- Ability to translate business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable architecture solutions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to explain complex architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Contribute to unify the Customer Applications ecosystem
In alignment with Enterprise Architecture, Security and Compliance you will contribute in the definition of the digital platform target state architecture and on the guidance of the organization from the disparate local platforms to a common digital platform using a standard set of services and technology components, driving the simplification of the digital application landscape.

- Help the teams navigate between group business cases, local market needs and technology improvements by identifying technical solutions and components that are built once and are reused across different business cases.

Actively perform and lead in the definition of solutions

- We have consolidated into one department different teams and systems. We have approximately 4 main development teams and a few smaller ones that are actively working on languages such as Java, C#, Go. Some are already live while others are still defining roadmaps. You must be comfortable to deep dive and provide expertise on cloud infrastructure, micro services, APIs and domain driven design.

- Product Owners, Developers, Testers, Business analysts etc.

Key and Desired Skills

- Strong experience designing and delivering enterprise DevOps solutions from architecture through implementation and production deployment.
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, orchestration, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Ability to design and recommend scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available DevOps architectures aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Proven experience as a DevOps/Cloud Architect, with at least 2 years in an architecture or technical leadership role.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, Terraform, Docker, APIs, integrations, automation, and modern application architecture.
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD strategies, release management, environment management, and deployment automation.
- Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, logging, performance, reliability, and operational support.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps principles, including security controls, vulnerability management, access management, and secure deployment practices.
- Experience working in scaled Agile environments and international corporate matrix organizations, collaborating across development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
- Strong team player with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to identify critical infrastructure, deployment, security, performance, and architectural risks, assess their impact, and recommend pragmatic solutions.
- Ability to define and drive DevOps standards, automation best practices, architectural governance, and continuous improvement across teams.
