Lead Software Engineer IV BenTech Integrations
Job Summary
The Standard India is seeking a Lead Software Engineer IV with deep hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, REST API development, Confluent Platform (Apache Kafka), and event-driven architecture to support the bentech integrations strategy. This strategy is intended to elevate The Standard customers overall digital experiences in enrollment, administration and claims through modern API-first and even-driven integration patterns that bridge The Standards vast insurance ecosystem & data with customer Human Capital Management Systems, broker digital solutions and data-intermediaries.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with Product Owners, Product Analysts, Scrum Masters, Front-End Engineers, Software Developers in Test, Data Engineers, DevOps / Site Reliability Engineers, and Architects to build scalable, secure, and reliable enterprise-grade services. The ideal candidate will be a senior engineer who can take ownership with minimal direction, translate business requirements into application functionality, and provide technical leadership across API engineering and integration delivery.
As a Lead Software Engineer IV, you will design and build complex, highly scalable, and reliable REST APIs, services, and event-driven components that deliver digital capabilities to customers. You will apply engineering best practices such as SOLID principles, OpenAPI-driven design, secure integration patterns, and performance-aware development across the software development life cycle. While this role should be comfortable working within Azure DevOps, GitHub, containerized environments, and CI/CD-enabled delivery models.
* Ability to work on-site in Bengaluru, India is a requirement of the role.
Mode of Working: This role follows a hybrid work model, with a primary base in Bengaluru.



While on-site presence is essential for key engagements, flexibility is offered for work from home based on business needs and team alignment.

Skills and Background Youll Need
Education: A bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems, or a related field is required.
Experience: 10+ years of related experience.

- Deep hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot
- Strong understanding of API design patterns, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, resiliency, security, performance optimization, and production-grade service development
- Experience with containerized application development using Docker and Kubernetes / AKS in Azure-based environments
- Experience in load testing REST API applications with tools like Apache JMeter or SOAPUI or Scala/Gatling scripting.
- Strong data background with experience in integrating with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
- Experience developing and implementing application solutions on Microsoft Azure, with practical awareness of Azure-native services used by modern API platforms
- Working knowledge of Azure DevOps, GitHub, Maven, and CI/CD-enabled delivery practices.
- Working within an Agile delivery / DevOps methodology to deliver proof of concept and production implementation in iterative sprints
- Solid problem-solving, analytical, communication, collaboration, and fast-learning abilities
- Experience integrating APIs through gateway and management platforms such as Kong / Kong Konnect preferred




- Strong experience with event-driven publish-subscribe solution patterns using Apache Kafka, Azure Event Hub, or similar technologies
- Hands-on working knowledge of Confluent Platform components, including Kafka brokers/clusters, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, connector development, and Apache Flink concepts such as statements and UDFs preferred
- Ability to understand frontend integration patterns and work effectively with frontend engineers to connect user experiences with backend APIs and services
- Ability to directly engage with business stakeholders and Product Owners to understand requirements and convert them into scalable application functionality
- Previous experience in a GCC environment and working across distributed teams/time zones is highly preferred.
