We are looking for an experienced Payroll professional with strong hands-on expertise in managing large-scale end-to-end Indian payroll operations for 1,00010,000+ employees. The candidate should have solid knowledge of payroll taxation, statutory compliance, payroll analytics and reconciliation. Exposure to US or UK payroll processing will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end monthly payroll processing for 1,00010,000+ employees with high accuracy and timely closure.
- Handle payroll inputs including new joiners, exits, transfers, salary revisions, promotions, incentives, bonuses, deductions, arrears and full & final settlements.
- Ensure compliance with Indian payroll statutory requirements including TDS, PF/EPF, ESI, Professional Tax, Labour Welfare Fund and other applicable compliances.
- Manage salary TDS computation, tax projections, investment declarations/proofs, tax reconciliation and statutory reporting.
- Coordinate payroll tax payments and returns, including TDS-related compliance and reconciliation.
- Perform detailed payroll validation, reconciliation, variance analysis and payroll audits before final payroll sign-off.
- Prepare monthly payroll MIS, headcount reports, payroll cost analysis, variance reports and management dashboards.
- Analyse payroll trends, identify discrepancies and provide actionable insights to HR and Finance leadership.
- Coordinate with HR, Finance, Accounting, Tax, Treasury and external payroll vendors for smooth payroll processing.
- Ensure accurate payroll accounting, payroll journal entries, provisions and reconciliation with the General Ledger.
- Manage payroll queries, escalations and employee-related payroll issues within defined SLAs.
- Drive payroll process improvements, automation and controls to improve accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Ensure payroll data confidentiality and compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations.
- Support internal/external audits and provide payroll reports, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- US or UK payroll processing experience will be preferred, including exposure to international payroll taxation and statutory requirements.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in Indian payroll processing at large scale 4,000 to 10,000+ employees.
- Strong understanding of Indian payroll taxation and statutory compliance.
- Good knowledge of TDS, PF, ESI, Professional Tax, LWF and payroll-related statutory filings.
- Strong payroll reconciliation and analytical skills.
- Excellent Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS and data analysis.
- Experience with payroll/HRMS platforms such as Workday, SAP, Oracle, ADP, Ramco, PeopleSoft or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting and Finance reconciliation.
- Experience managing payroll vendors and third-party payroll service providers.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage high-volume payroll with strict timelines and zero/low-error tolerance.
Preferred / Added Advantage
- Experience handling US payroll or UK payroll.
- Knowledge of US payroll taxes, federal/state/local taxation or UK PAYE, National Insurance and pension processes.
- Experience managing multi-country/global payroll.
- Experience in payroll transformation, automation or implementation projects.
- Professional qualification such as CA/ICWA/CMA/MBA Finance would be an advantage.
