Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior SQL & Azure Database Administrator to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Technical Lead across critical enterprise database environments. In this hands-on leadership role, you will oversee the implementation, configuration, maintenance, performance optimization, and architectural design of 400+ application databases spanning both on-premises SQL Server infrastructure and Azure Cloud platforms (PaaS & IaaS).

The ideal candidate brings deep domain expertise in advanced query tuning, High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) design, T-SQL/PowerShell automation, and database security compliance.

Must-Have Non-Negotiables

- Experience: Minimum 12+ years of hands-on experience as a core SQL Database Administrator in enterprise environments.

- Azure Cloud Expertise: Minimum 5+ years dedicated experience managing Azure Cloud database services (PaaS - Azure SQL Database, Elastic Pools, Managed Instances & IaaS - SQL Server on Azure VMs).

- Performance Optimization: Minimum 8+ years specializing in deep-dive performance tuning, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and index strategy.

- Technical Leadership: Proven track record acting as a Lead / SME, providing architectural direction, mentoring developer teams, and leading database modernization initiatives.

- Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional global stakeholders and leadership.

Key Responsibilities Performance Engineering & Code Quality




- Serve as the primary engineering DBA supporting 400+ enterprise application databases across Operations Technology and Information Security domains (including mission-critical systems like OPSYS, AAA, and IIQ).

- Function as the mandated code reviewer for all SQL scripts, stored procedures, and schema changes; establish and enforce enterprise database standards.

- Perform execution plan analysis, index optimization, and iterative performance tuning to minimize production incidents during application releases and Program Increment (PI) delivery cycles.

- Utilize enterprise monitoring utilities (e.g., SQL Sentry, Redgate) for real-time diagnostics, long-term capacity forecasting, and operational stability.

Architecture, High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Architect and support robust High Availability/Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) topologies using Always On Availability Groups (AG) and Distributed Availability Groups (DAG) with automatic seeding, multi-site replication, and read-scale configurations.

- Design, implement, and manage complex table partitioning strategies to support high-volume data growth and rapid data archival/retrieval.

- Lead end-of-life (EOL) migration initiatives for SQL Server and Windows Server platforms to eliminate legacy infrastructure risks.

Azure Cloud Engineering (PaaS & IaaS)
- Drive database modernization strategies, migrating workloads from on-premises environments to Azure Cloud.

- Architect and manage Azure SQL PaaS deployments, including Managed Instances, Azure SQL Databases, Elastic Pools, and Serverless compute options.

- Configure auto-scaling rules, failover groups, performance tiers, and security integrations within Azure Cloud.

Automation,



Security & Governance
- Develop custom automation scripts using PowerShell, T-SQL, and SQL Agent jobs to automate routine maintenance, backup/restore cycles, and operational workflows.

- Enforce enterprise security governance, maintaining zero outstanding vulnerabilities across supported platforms using Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), auditing, role-based access control, and regulatory compliance frameworks.

- Maintain strong ITIL service management practices across incident handling, change enablement, and Continual Service Improvement (CSI).
