About SCIDECS

SCIDECS is an enterprise technology and digital transformation company helping businesses streamline and modernize their operations through ERP implementation, customization, integration, automation, and ongoing technology support.

We work with organizations across multiple industries and markets, delivering practical enterprise solutions tailored to real business requirements. As we expand our SAP services and project capabilities, we are looking for an experienced SAP ABAP Consultant to work with us on a freelance, part-time basis.

This role is ideal for an experienced SAP professional who is currently working independently, consulting, or looking for additional project-based assignments alongside existing commitments.

Role Overview

We are seeking a technically strong and dependable SAP ABAP Consultant / Developer who can support SAP development, enhancements, integrations, troubleshooting, and technical implementation activities across client projects.

The consultant will work closely with SCIDECS functional consultants, project managers, technical teams, and client stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into reliable SAP technical solutions.

This is not a full-time employment position. The engagement will primarily be part-time and project-driven, with the workload varying depending on active client requirements.

We are particularly interested in consultants who can independently analyze requirements, estimate development effort, communicate technical considerations clearly, and deliver production-quality developments within agreed timelines.

Key Responsibilities

The selected consultant will be responsible for activities including:

- Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain SAP ABAP programs based on functional and technical requirements.
- Develop custom reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms, and workflows as required by client projects.
- Work with ABAP Objects (OO ABAP) and follow appropriate object-oriented development practices.
- Develop and enhance ALV reports, Smart Forms, SAPscript, and Adobe Forms, depending on project requirements.
- Work with BAPIs, BADIs, User Exits, Customer Exits, Enhancement Framework, RFCs, and function modules.
- Develop and troubleshoot interfaces between SAP and external applications.
- Work with IDocs, APIs, RFC-based integrations, web services, and other SAP integration mechanisms.
- Perform data migration and conversion developments using appropriate SAP tools and techniques.
- Analyze existing custom developments and identify issues, performance bottlenecks, or opportunities for improvement.
- Perform debugging, root-cause analysis, and resolution of ABAP-related production and implementation issues.
- Optimize ABAP code and database interactions for performance and maintainability.
- Support functional consultants during solution design and technical feasibility analysis.
- Convert functional specifications into appropriate technical designs and developments.
- Prepare or maintain technical specifications and development documentation where required.
- Conduct unit testing before handing developments over for functional testing or UAT.
- Resolve defects identified during testing and UAT.
- Support deployment, transport management, cutover, and go-live activities when required.
- Provide post-go-live technical support for developments delivered as part of assigned projects.
- Follow SAP development standards and SCIDECS/client coding and documentation guidelines.

Required Technical Skills

Candidates should have strong hands-on experience with SAP ABAP development and a solid understanding of SAP's technical architecture.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable with several of the following:

Core ABAP
ABAP programming, ABAP Dictionary, Data Dictionary objects, internal tables, function modules, modularization techniques, debugging, performance analysis, and object-oriented ABAP.

Reports & Forms
Classical and interactive reports, ALV reports, Smart Forms, SAPscript, and preferably Adobe Forms.

Enhancements
User Exits, Customer Exits, BADIs, Enhancement Spots, implicit/explicit enhancements, and related SAP enhancement techniques.

Integration
BAPI, RFC, IDoc, ALE, APIs, web services, file-based interfaces, and integration with third-party applications.

Data Migration
Experience developing or supporting data migration and bulk data processing using suitable SAP migration techniques.

Performance & Troubleshooting
Ability to debug complex programs, analyze dumps and runtime issues, optimize inefficient code, and troubleshoot custom developments.

S/4HANA Experience

Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA will be strongly preferred.

Candidates with experience in the following areas will have an advantage:

- ABAP development for S/4HANA
- CDS Views
- AMDP
- OData services
- SAP Gateway
- RAP or modern ABAP development concepts
- Fiori backend development
- S/4HANA custom code adaptation
- Performance optimization on SAP HANA

Experience across both SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments is highly desirable.

Functional Exposure

While this is primarily a technical position, an understanding of SAP functional processes is key.

Experience supporting developments around one or more of the following modules will be advantageous:

- SAP FI/CO
- SAP MM
- SAP SD
- SAP PP
- SAP WM/EWM
- SAP HCM
- SAP PM
- SAP PS

You are not expected to replace a functional consultant, but you should be capable of understanding functional specifications and discussing requirements effectively with functional teams.

What We Expect

Because this is a freelance engagement, we are looking for someone who can work with relatively limited supervision.

You should be able to:

- Understand requirements quickly.
- Ask the right technical and functional questions.
- Provide realistic effort estimates.
- Highlight technical risks before starting development.
- Meet agreed delivery timelines.
- Communicate delays or blockers proactively.
- Maintain good development and documentation standards.
- Participate in remote meetings when required.
- Coordinate effectively with distributed project teams.
- Take ownership of assigned developments through completion.

Reliability and communication are particularly important to us. We are looking to establish relationships with consultants whom we can repeatedly engage across SAP projects rather than simply outsource isolated development tasks.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of practical SAP ABAP development experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience in real SAP implementation, rollout, support, or enhancement projects.
- Experience working directly from functional specifications and business requirements.
- Experience with SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA environments.
- Good understanding of SAP development lifecycle and transport management.
- Solid debugging and problem-solving abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting.

Relevant SAP certifications are an advantage but are not mandatory. Practical experience and technical capability will be given greater importance.

Engagement Model

This position is offered on a freelance / part time contractual basis.

The consultant may be engaged for individual development requirements, specific project phases, ongoing implementation support, or a predefined number of hours depending on the project.

Working hours can generally be flexible; however, the consultant should be available for scheduled project discussions, requirement clarification, status calls, and critical support activities when mutually agreed.

The exact workload may vary from week to week depending on active projects.

Candidates should therefore be comfortable with a flexible engagement model rather than expecting guaranteed full-time utilization.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on the consultant's experience, technical expertise, project requirements, and agreed engagement model.

We are open to:

- Hourly consulting rates
- Fixed-price development assignments
- Part-time monthly arrangements
- Project-specific contracts

Commercial terms will be finalized before commencement of each engagement or project.
