Cable Laying Engineer – IT Infrastructure & Networking

1. Job Summary

We are looking for a technically competent and field-oriented Cable Laying Engineer to execute, supervise, and coordinate cable laying and installation activities for IT infrastructure, structured cabling, networking, CCTV surveillance, and other ELV systems. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all cable installation works are completed as per approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project timelines.

2. Key Roles and Responsibilities

A. Cable Laying and Installation

- Execute and supervise laying of CAT6/CAT6A cables, optical fibre cables (OFC), telephone cables, coaxial cables, and power cables as per project requirements.
- Coordinate cable routing through conduits, cable trays, trunking, ducts, trenches, risers, and overhead pathways.
- Ensure proper cable dressing, tagging, numbering, bundling, segregation, and termination.
- Supervise installation of racks, patch panels, information outlets, LIUs/ODFs, and associated cabling accessories.
- Ensure adherence to minimum bending radius, pulling tension, separation distances, and other OEM-recommended installation practices.

B. Site Supervision and Project Execution

- Supervise cable-laying technicians, helpers, and subcontractors at project sites.
- Study BOQs, approved layouts, cable schedules, and technical drawings before commencing work.
- Coordinate with project managers, electrical contractors, civil teams, and client representatives.
- Monitor daily progress and ensure completion of assigned work within project deadlines.
- Identify site constraints, resolve execution issues, and report deviations or additional requirements to the Project Manager.

C. Testing and Quality Assurance





- Conduct continuity testing and verify cable identification and termination quality.
- Coordinate LAN cable certification using appropriate cable testers and fibre testing using optical power meters, OTDR, or other specified equipment.
- Ensure proper labelling at both ends and maintain cable test reports.
- Inspect completed installations for workmanship, routing, cable management, and compliance with approved specifications.
- Support commissioning, snag rectification, and final handover of the installed infrastructure.

D. Documentation and Reporting

- Prepare daily progress reports, cable measurement sheets, route records, and material consumption reports.
- Maintain records of cable drum usage, cable lengths, wastage, and balance materials.
- Assist in preparing as-built drawings, testing reports, site completion reports, and BOQ reconciliation.
- Report material shortages, site issues, delays, and additional work requirements promptly.

E. Safety and Compliance

- Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, PPE requirements, and work permits.
- Implement safe practices for working at heights, in trenches, and around electrical installations.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safe handling of cables, tools, and installation equipment.

3. Educational Qualifications

- Diploma or ITI in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
- Candidates with relevant hands-on experience in IT infrastructure or ELV cable installation may also be considered.

4. Required Technical Skills

- Practical knowledge of structured cabling, LAN networking, OFC, and ELV systems.
- Familiarity with cable trays, conduits, trunking, cable pulling, termination, and cable management.
- Understanding of basic networking concepts, including patch panels,



switches, racks, and LAN outlets.
- Knowledge of cable testing tools and installation quality standards.
- Ability to read and interpret cable routing layouts, BOQs, and basic technical drawings.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel for site reporting and material tracking is desirable.

5. Experience and Competencies

- 1–4 years of experience in cable laying, structured cabling, electrical installation, or ELV project execution.
- Experience in commercial buildings, offices, hospitals, educational institutions, industrial facilities, or campus networking projects will be preferred.
- Good site coordination, team supervision, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work at client locations as required.
- Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.

6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Timely completion of cable laying activities as per project schedule.
- Quality of cable installation, dressing, labelling, and termination.
- Compliance with approved BOQ, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Accuracy of cable measurement, material consumption, and wastage reporting.
- Successful completion of testing, inspection, and snag rectification.
- Compliance with site safety requirements and reduction of rework.

7. Compensation and Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, technical skills, and suitability for the role. Travel allowances and other applicable benefits will be provided as per company policy.
