About Position:

We are seeking a Principal Database Refactoring & Performance Architect to lead the modernization of our core data layer. In this role, you will actively deconstruct, redesign, and rewrite legacy database code and schemas to unlock the full potential of Oracle 19c Autonomous Database (ADB) connected to Microsoft Azure. You will specialize in eliminating technical debt, refactoring inefficient PL/SQL, and redesigning data models for optimal cloud execution.

What You'll Do:

- Audit, decouple, and refactor monolithic PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, and triggers into modular, high-performing database logic.
- Hand-code and rewrite highly complex, poorly performing SQL queries to align with Oracle 19c Cost-Based Optimizer (CBO).
- Identify and eliminate slow row-by-row processing and refactor them into efficient bulk processing and set-based SQL approaches.
- Implement structured logging, error handling, instrumentation, and performance tracing within database code to improve observability.
- Lead schema redesign initiatives including normalization, denormalization, table restructuring, and data model optimization.
- Design and implement advanced Oracle 19c partitioning strategies, composite indexing, and index-organized tables.




- Identify and eliminate deprecated database objects, redundant indexes, and legacy code that negatively impacts performance.
- Enhance database structures to support cloud-native and autonomous database workloads.
- Optimize interactions between Azure-hosted applications and Oracle 19c Autonomous Database.
- Refactor application connectivity patterns, batching strategies, and database interaction models.
- Redesign data ingestion and integration pipelines using modern event-driven approaches.
- Support integration with Azure services and enterprise platforms.

Expertise You'll Bring:

- 15-20 years of experience in Oracle Database Development, Architecture, and Performance Engineering.
- At least 5+ years of dedicated experience in database code refactoring, schema modernization, structural migration, and performance optimization initiatives.
- Expert-level proficiency in PL/SQL development, debugging, tuning, and large-scale code refactoring.
- Deep expertise in advanced SQL development, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
- Extensive knowledge of Oracle analytical functions, collection types, object types, bulk processing, FORALL, BULK COLLECT, and advanced PL/SQL programming techniques.
- Strong understanding of Oracle 19c Cost-Based Optimizer (CBO), execution plans, adaptive query optimization, and SQL Plan Baselines.
- Proven experience modernizing legacy database platforms and eliminating database technical debt.
- Expertise in database schema redesign, normalization, denormalization, data modeling, and structural refactoring.
- Experience implementing advanced partitioning, indexing strategies, index-organized tables, and high-performance storage architectures.
- Strong understanding of Oracle Autonomous Database architecture and performance optimization principles.
- Experience performing online schema changes using Edition-Based Redefinition (EBR), DBMS_REDEFINITION, and other zero-downtime migration techniques.
- Expert hands-on experience with Oracle development and performance analysis tools including PL/SQL Developer, SQL Developer, Toad, SQLTXPLAIN, and Oracle SQL Monitor.
- Experience implementing structured logging, observability, monitoring, and performance tracing frameworks within database solutions.
- Strong expertise in database performance tuning, workload analysis, bottleneck identification, and optimization.
- Experience integrating Oracle databases with Azure-hosted applications, microservices, and cloud-native platforms.




- Understanding of Azure integration patterns, event-driven architectures, and enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with Azure Data Factory and modern cloud-based data integration mechanisms.
- Experience working with .NET, Java, microservices, AKS, Azure Functions, and enterprise application ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of database migration, modernization, and cloud transformation strategies.
- Excellent analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis capabilities.
- Proven ability to lead architecture initiatives, technical modernization programs, and database transformation projects.
- Robust communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and technical leadership skills.
- Ability to work closely with architects, application teams, cloud teams, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-scale modernization outcomes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional, Oracle Database 19c Maximum Availability Certified Expert, or equivalent Oracle certifications are highly desirable.
