JOB TITLE: Project Accountant

DEPARTMENT : Project Management

REPORTS TO : PM Director

LOCATION : Chennai, India

Job Summary: The Project Accountant will work closely with Project Managers, Project Controls, Procurement, Engineering, and Finance to ensure project costs, billing, revenue, cash flow, and profitability are accurately tracked and reported.

This position will serve as an important link between the project team and Finance, providing accurate financial information and helping project leadership understand the financial performance of their projects.

Key Responsibilities:

· Maintain accurate financial records for assigned projects.

· Monitor project budgets, commitments, actual costs, billings, revenue, and cash flow.

· Review project costs regularly to ensure expenses are accurately coded and charged to the appropriate project.

· Analyze actual project costs against approved budgets and forecasts.

· Identify cost variances, potential overruns, and other financial risks and communicate them to project leadership.

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc project financial reports.

· Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.

· Prepare and maintain project cost schedules and supporting documentation.

· Prepare client invoices in accordance with contract terms and project milestones.

· Track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding project invoices.

· Coordinate with Procurement and project teams to monitor purchase orders, subcontract commitments, and outstanding obligations.

· Prepare accruals for goods or services received but not yet invoiced.

· Assist with percentage-of-completion calculations and revenue recognition.

· Prepare project cash-flow forecasts and monitor actual cash flow against forecast.

· Assist Project Managers and Project Controls with project forecasting and final cost estimates.

· Review project profitability and provide financial information to support project decision-making.





· Reconcile project-related accounts and investigate discrepancies.

· Maintain accurate project documentation for internal and external audits.

· Coordinate with U.S. Finance and other departments regarding project-related financial matters.

· Ensure project accounting activities comply with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable contractual requirements.

· Assist with process improvements to increase the accuracy and efficiency of project financial reporting.

· Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· 4–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in engineering, EPC, construction, manufacturing, or another project-based setting.

· Experience with project accounting, job costing, project billing, or cost control preferred.

· Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

· Experience working with an ERP or accounting system.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Project Controls, Procurement, Finance, and other departments.

· Experience working with international projects or U.S.-based companies is a plus.

Preferred Experience:

· CA, CMA, ACCA, or other professional accounting qualification is preferred but not required.

· Experience with engineering, construction, EPC, or industrial projects.

· Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting and project forecasting.

· Experience supporting projects involving multiple currencies.

· Experience working with U.S. GAAP or multinational accounting environments.

· Experience with project management, project controls, or cost-control functions

Pay: ₹13,000.00 - ₹54,000.00 per month
