About Luma
Luma is a current age eyewear brand being built with the ambition to become a meaningful consumer brand in India.
We are building Luma around a simple belief:
great consumer brands are built by deeply understanding customers and then consistently creating products that people genuinely want.
Our ambition goes beyond simply selling eyewear. We want to build a strong brand with a thoughtful product portfolio across customer segments, price points and use cases, while maintaining a clear and recognizable Luma identity.
We are at an early stage, which means the people joining us today will have the opportunity to shape not just their function, but the company itself.
About the Role
We are looking for a "Product Manager" who can take ownership of the product function at Luma.
This is not a role where you will simply be handed a product roadmap and asked to execute it.
You will be involved in answering some of the most fundamental questions about our business:
What should Luma sell?
Who should we build it for?
Why should they buy it?
What should it look like?
What should it cost?
How should we position it?
And how do we take it to market?
You will work closely with the founding team across product strategy, customer segmentation, product development, category planning, pricing, campaigns and product performance.
The ideal candidate is someone who can combine customer understanding, product thinking, commercial sense and creativity.
What You'll Own
1. Product & Category Strategy
- Develop and manage Luma's product and category strategy.
- Identify gaps and opportunities within our product portfolio.
- Research customers, competitors, trends and market opportunities.
- Recommend which products and categories Luma should enter, expand, improve or discontinue.
- Build product roadmaps based on customer needs and business objectives.
- Ensure our product portfolio has a clear rationale rather than becoming a collection of disconnected SKUs.
2. Product Development
- Work with the founding team, designers, manufacturers and vendors to develop new products.
- Translate customer insights and market opportunities into product concepts.
- Define product requirements, specifications and positioning.
- Participate in design and development decisions.
- Evaluate prototypes and samples and provide structured feedback.
- Manage products through development from concept to launch.
3. Customer Segmentation
- Identify and understand Luma's key customer segments.
- Develop products and collections specifically around different customer needs.
- Understand customer motivations, preferences, price sensitivity and purchase behaviour.
- Translate customer insights into actionable product decisions.
- Continuously refine our understanding of who Luma is building for.
4. Pricing & Commercial Strategy
- Work with the founding and commercial teams to establish product pricing.
- Evaluate products based on margin, volume potential and customer willingness to pay.
- Understand product-level economics and profitability.
- Balance customer value with Luma's commercial objectives.
- Identify opportunities to create different price points and product propositions without diluting the brand.
5. Product Launches & Campaigns
- Work closely with the marketing and creative teams on product launches.
- Help define the positioning and story behind new products and collections.
- Translate product characteristics into compelling customer propositions.
- Contribute to campaign concepts and launch strategies.
- Ensure that the way we communicate a product is aligned with why the product exists in the first place.
6. Product Performance
- Track the performance of products and collections after launch.
- Analyse sales, conversion, margins, customer feedback and other relevant metrics.
- Identify what is working, what isn't and why.
- Recommend improvements, iterations or discontinuation where necessary.
- Use learnings from existing products to influence future product decisions.
What We're Looking For:
We are looking for someone who is curious, commercially minded, analytical and willing to take ownership.
You should be comfortable working in an environment where not everything is already defined and where you may have to build the process yourself.
You should ideally have:
- 2–6 years of experience in product management, category management, consumer products, fashion, lifestyle, retail, D2C, e-commerce or a related field.
- Strong understanding of customer-centric product development.
- Ability to analyse markets, customers and competitors.
- Strong commercial and analytical thinking.
- Ability to work with data as well as qualitative customer insights.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with design, marketing, sourcing, operations and leadership.
- Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the larger business objective.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Experience in eyewear, fashion, accessories, lifestyle,
retail or other consumer categories will be an advantage, but it is not mandatory.
What Matters More Than Your Resume
We're particularly interested in people who can demonstrate that they:
Think from the customer backwards.
You don't start with “What product can we make?”
You start with:
“What problem or desire does the customer have, and what should we build to address it?”
Can form a point of view.
We want someone who can look at a situation, make a recommendation and explain why, not someone who waits for instructions for every decision.
Are comfortable challenging assumptions.
You will work closely with the founding team. We expect you to disagree when you have a reason to disagree.
Think commercially.
A product can be beautiful and still be a bad business decision. You should be able to think about customers, pricing, margins, volumes and long-term brand value together.
Take ownership.
If you see a problem, we expect you to take it up rather than simply point it out.
What You Can Expect at Luma
High Ownership
You will have genuine influence over the products and categories Luma builds.
Direct Access to the Founding Team
You will work closely with the founders and participate in important product and business decisions.
Build From the Ground Up
You won't be inheriting a mature product function with established processes. You will help build those processes.
Cross Functional Exposure
You will work across product, design, marketing, sourcing, e-commerce and business strategy.
Opportunity to Grow With the Company
As Luma grows, this role has the potential to evolve into a much larger product and category leadership position.
Why This Role Matters
At Luma, product is not simply one department among many.
The product is the brand.
The products we choose to launch will determine who our customers are, how they perceive us, what price points we can operate in, what stories we can tell through marketing and ultimately what kind of company Luma becomes.
That is why we're looking for someone who wants to build, not simply manage.
