Design Engineer — Plant Setup & Project Engineering
ACEDS | Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh | 7+ Years | Full time
ACEDS is hiring a Design Engineer with 7+ years of experience, hands-on radiation-equipment experience and broad plant-setup knowledge. The role covers buying machines for the Bhopal factory and running PGNAA analyser assembly and testing there, design of a coal washing plant in Peru, and support on a data centre project in Europe.
About ACEDS
ACEDS is a deep-tech company working in neutron-based technology. It builds PGNAA (prompt gamma neutron activation analysis) analysers, including the TATVA online cross-belt analyser used by the steel, cement and coal industries.
ACEDS and its group companies are now building manufacturing and infrastructure projects in India and abroad, and need an engineer who can take each one from design to a running plant.
The Role
You will own mechanical and plant engineering across very different facilities, so breadth matters as much as depth. You must have set up at least one plant end to end and be comfortable learning a new plant type quickly.
- Title: Design Engineer
- Experience: 7+ years
- Reports to: CTO, or other senior leaders depending on the project
- Team: Individual contributor; works with draftsmen, consultants and contractors as needed
- Base: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
- Travel: Extended stays at the Peru site during construction and commissioning; occasional visits to Europe
- Employment: Full time, permanent
Projects You Will Work On
Project-Location-Your role-What you will work on
Factory machines and PGNAA analysers - Bhopal, India - Machine procurement, assembly and test lead - Selecting and buying factory machines; assembly line, shielding and source handling during build, QC and factory acceptance tests
Coal washing plant - Peru - Design lead - Full process plant: crushing, screening, washing circuits, conveyors, water and tailings handling, structures
Data centre - Europe - Supporting engineer - Mechanical and layout reviews when asked, alongside the consultants and contractors who lead the design
The weight of each project in your workload will change with its stage. Other ACEDS group projects may be added.
Core Responsibilities
On every project you will:
- Prepare and freeze plant layouts, general arrangement drawings, equipment lists and material-flow plans.
- Write technical specifications, evaluate vendor offers technically and recommend equipment.
- Produce or approve 2D/3D drawings, structural and mechanical details and BOMs; review consultant and vendor drawings.
- Give civil, structural and MEP contractors the loads, foundations, openings and utility requirements they need, and check the work on site.
- Run basic structural and thermal checks,
and bring in specialist consultants where needed.
- Plan and supervise installation, alignment, trials, commissioning and handover; close punch lists.
- Track engineering schedule and cost, and flag risks to the CTO early.
- Make sure designs meet local codes, safety and environmental rules in India, Peru and the EU.
- Keep complete engineering records so each plant can be operated, audited and repeated.
Project-Specific Responsibilities
Bhopal factory: machine procurement, PGNAA assembly and testing
Machine procurement
- Work out which machines the factory needs (machining, fabrication, lifting, assembly and test equipment) from the production plan.
- Write technical specifications, find suppliers in India and abroad, and compare offers on capability, cost, lead time and service.
- Recommend purchases, support price negotiation, and witness factory acceptance tests at the supplier.
- Plan foundations, power and utilities for each machine, then supervise installation, trials and handover.
PGNAA analyser assembly and testing
- Set up the analyser assembly line: layout, workstations, lifting and handling for heavy shielding, jigs and fixtures.
- Assemble analysers: frames, shielding blocks, neutron source and detector housings, electronics enclosures.
- Handle and load neutron sources and shielding under the Radiological Safety Officer's supervision, following AERB rules.
- Define and run QC checks and factory acceptance tests, including radiation dose-rate surveys around each unit.
- Write assembly SOPs, test procedures and build records for every analyser.
- Feed assembly and test issues back to the design team, and support dispatch to customer sites.
Coal washing plant, Peru (design lead)
- Develop the process flow and plant layout with the process engineer: receiving, crushing, screening, washing and dewatering.
- Specify and size equipment such as crushers, screens, dense-medium cyclones, jigs or spirals, centrifuges, thickeners and filter presses.
- Design conveyors, chutes, bins, stockpiles, steel structures and platforms.
- Plan water recovery, slurry, tailings and dust control.
- Coordinate local contractors and suppliers, and supervise erection and commissioning on site.
Data centre, Europe (supporting role)
Consultants and contractors lead this design. When asked, you will:
- Review mechanical,
cooling and layout drawings and raise issues.
- Help coordinate site interfaces during construction and commissioning.
Requirements
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7+ years in plant design, equipment assembly and project engineering.
- Hands-on experience designing or building radiation-based equipment, such as PGNAA or XRF analysers, nuclear gauges, NDT or medical radiation devices.
- Practical knowledge of radiation shielding, source handling and AERB regulations.
- Experience buying industrial machines: specifications, supplier comparison, factory acceptance tests and installation.
- At least one complete plant setup, from layout to commissioning, with a clearly defined personal role.
- Hands-on site experience in installation and commissioning, not only office design.
- Experience on a mineral or coal processing plant.
- Broad working knowledge of civil, structural, electrical and MEP interfaces, enough to coordinate those teams.
- Strong in 3D/2D CAD (SolidWorks or Creo, AutoCAD), GD&T; and BOMs.
- Valid passport, and willing to stay abroad for long periods.
- Fluent English; clear written specifications and reports.
