The role
You will own organic search for 3-5 client brands: what we rank for, what we get cited in, and what that is worth to the client. Both halves matter now. Ranking first on a query that Google answers itself is worth less than being the source an AI answer pulls from, and you will be judged on both.

You will work across accounts at different stages, which means the hardest part of the job is deciding what not to do this month. We would rather you move one account decisively than touch five accounts lightly.

One thing to be explicit about: we are not paid for visibility. Rankings and citations are means. A page that ranks first for a question asked by people who will never buy is worth less to the client than a page that ranks fifth for a question asked by someone with a budget and a deadline. We expect you to know the difference, to build toward the second, and to say so when a client asks for traffic that will not convert.

What you will do

- Run technical, on-page and content SEO across your accounts: crawl and index diagnosis, site architecture, internal linking, page-level optimisation, content briefs and refreshes.
- Own AEO and GEO work: making client pages retrievable and quotable by AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and building the third-party presence those systems actually cite.
- Track visibility where it now lives. Rankings and Search Console, yes, but also a fixed prompt panel run on a schedule, AI crawler activity in server logs, and referral traffic from AI assistants in GA4.
- Diagnose traffic movements properly. When an account drops, we want to know whether it was a core update, a dev deployment, an indexing problem,

a SERP layout change or a competitor, and we want to know which ones you ruled out.
- Write briefs that writers can act on and that answer a real question in the first hundred words.
- Report to clients in plain language, including the months where the honest answer is "this is working but it is slow".

What we need

- 2-5 years doing SEO with real account responsibility, not keyword research in a support seat.
- Proven results you can walk us through on a screen share: a site, a baseline, a figure it reached, over a stated period, and the mechanism you believe caused it. We will ask what the traffic was worth, so bring that too.
- A habit of starting from intent rather than volume. Given a keyword set or a prompt set, you can say which part of it belongs to someone close to buying, which is research, and which is noise we should not spend the client's money on. You will be asked to argue against a high-volume term at some point, and we expect you to win that argument.
- Real understanding of how Google ranking works and how it has changed: core updates and what they reward, how click and engagement signals became public knowledge through the API documentation leak and the antitrust testimony, site-level quality, crawl and index budget,

and what AI Overviews has done to click-through on informational queries.
- Working knowledge of AEO and GEO, with the honesty to say what is established and what is still guesswork. We would rather hire someone with six months of careful experiments than someone who claims three years in a discipline that did not exist three years ago.
- At least one demonstrable result in AI search: a page you worked on that gets cited for a prompt you can show us live, or a documented before-and-after on a prompt set. One real example beats a deck.
- Structured data, Search Console, GA4, and one crawler (Screaming Frog or similar) as everyday tools.
- The judgement to prioritise across accounts and tell a client what you are deliberately not doing.

Nice to have

- Experience in our categories: eCommerce, Fashion, retail, healthcare.
- Digital PR or link acquisition experience, which is increasingly the same work as earning AI citations.
- You publish your own experiments. We will read them.

How to apply
Send your CV plus two things: one organic result you are proud of with the actual numbers, and one prompt we can type into ChatGPT/ Claude or Gemini today where a page you worked on appears. If the second is not possible yet, tell us honestly what you have tried instead. Applications without both answers will not be read.
