Chennai

Role Purpose

Equivital develops advanced wearable physiological monitoring technology for defence, research, healthcare and industrial applications. Our India design team is based in Ahmedabad and manufacturing is undertaken through our partner in Chennai.

This hands-on role will be Equivital's key technical interface with manufacturing in Chennai and the bridge between design engineering and production. The individual will own manufacturing engineering performance across process improvement, yield, ATE/test engineering, NPI/design transfer, mechanical/tooling optimisation, quality and cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities

· Manufacturing & process improvement – own and improve production processes, tooling, fixtures, work instructions and controls. Drive improvements in FPY/RTY, throughput, cycle/test time, process capability, line efficiency, scrap, rework and unit cost.

· Yield & failure analysis – establish failure reporting and Pareto analysis; lead root-cause investigations and permanent corrective actions using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa, FMEA and statistical analysis. Feed manufacturing learning back into product and process design.

· ATE / production test – take technical ownership of ATE performance, availability, test coverage, limits, fixtures/interfaces, calibration, golden units, Gauge R&R;, false pass/fail reduction, repeatability, test-data analysis, maintenance and test-cycle reduction. Support introduction of new test solutions.

· NPI & design transfer – work with the Ahmedabad engineering team from development through prototype, validation and production ramp. Drive DFM, DFA and DFT; advise on tolerances, component selection, test strategy, tooling, fixtures and manufacturing documentation; ensure production readiness before volume release.

· Mechanical engineering & tooling – work closely with Equivital mechanical engineers and external tooling companies to improve mechanical design, manufacturability and assembly. Review injection-moulding tools, jigs and fixtures; support tool design reviews, trials, validation and modifications; resolve mechanical quality/yield issues; and drive value engineering, alternative materials, tooling improvements and component/tooling cost-down programmes.

· Contract manufacturer management – act as Equivital's principal day-to-day manufacturing engineering interface in Chennai. Monitor performance, challenge issues constructively and ensure corrective/improvement actions are completed.

· Quality & continuous improvement – support CAPA, NCRs, process validation, traceability, PFMEA, control plans, engineering changes and ISO 13485 requirements. Embed Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement.

· Supply chain & component engineering – support shortages, obsolescence, alternate-part qualification, supplier quality, component lifecycle management and cost-down activity with engineering and suppliers.

Core Manufacturing KPIs

· First Pass Yield / Final Yield

· ATE failure rate and test time

· Scrap and rework

· Production throughput and process capability

· Manufacturing cost per unit

· OTIF and quality performance

Ideal Experience

· Approximately 8–12+ years in electronics manufacturing engineering, test engineering, NPI or a closely related discipline, with substantial hands-on factory experience.

· Strong PCB/PCBA and electronic product assembly experience, including production troubleshooting, yield improvement and structured failure analysis.

· Practical experience of automated production test equipment/electronic test systems and using manufacturing/test data to drive improvements.

· Proven NPI and design-transfer experience, including DFM, DFA and DFT, taking products from engineering builds into reliable volume manufacture.

· Experience working with contract manufacturers / EMS partners and influencing performance without relying solely on direct authority.

· Experience collaborating with mechanical engineers and tooling suppliers on plastics/enclosures, injection moulding, tooling, jigs/fixtures, mechanical yield, value engineering and cost reduction.

· Strong continuous-improvement and problem-solving capability; experience with regulated or high-reliability manufacturing is preferred.

Preferred Background & Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

· Experience in medical devices, wearable technology, physiological monitoring, IoT/connected devices, automotive electronics, aerospace/defence electronics or other high-reliability electronics.

· Medical-device / ISO 13485 experience is highly desirable but not essential for an exceptional high-reliability electronics candidate.

· Useful technical knowledge includes SMT/PCBA, ATE and fixtures, SPC, Cp/Cpk, Gauge R&R;, PFMEA, CAPA, Lean/Six Sigma, engineering change control, batteries, BLE, sensors, plastics and enclosures.

Personal Profile

· Hands-on and comfortable working on the manufacturing floor to diagnose problems directly.

· Data-driven, technically curious and able to convert production/ATE data into practical corrective action.

· Commercially aware, with a strong understanding of how yield, test time, scrap, rework, tooling and design decisions affect product cost and margin.

· Proactive and collaborative, but able to challenge manufacturing and supplier teams and hold them accountable.

· Strong communicator able to work effectively across Chennai manufacturing, Ahmedabad engineering, external suppliers/toolmakers and UK senior management.

Success in the First 6–12 Months

· Establish explicit manufacturing and ATE performance dashboards and identify the principal sources of yield loss.

· Deliver measurable improvements in FPY, recurring failures, scrap/rework, ATE reliability/test time and manufacturing cost.

· Establish a structured continuous-improvement programme with the Chennai manufacturing partner.

· Strengthen the Ahmedabad-to-Chennai NPI/design-transfer process and improve DFM/DFT discipline.

· Deliver mechanical/tooling improvements and cost-down opportunities with engineers and tooling partners.

· Create a scalable manufacturing-engineering framework capable of supporting significant future production growth.
