Role Purpose
The Power Trader will be responsible for end-to-end power trading, scheduling, optimisation and distribution of power across all Welspun sites. The role involves managing demandsupply balance for conventional and renewable power assets including Solar (Land & Floating), Green Energy and other generation sources, while ensuring cost efficiency, regulatory compliance and optimal market participation
Key Responsibilities
Power Trading & Market Operations
- Lead power trading activities in open power markets including short-term and real-time markets.
- Analyse market trends, prices, demandsupply scenarios and regulatory changes to identify optimal sourcing and trading opportunities.
- Execute power purchase and sale transactions through power exchanges, bilateral contracts and open access mechanisms.
- Develop and implement trading strategies to optimise cost, revenue and risk exposure.
Scheduling, Forecasting & Optimisation
- Oversee scheduling and dispatch of power across all Welspun generation assets and consumption points.
- Manage demand forecasting, generation forecasting and load balancing to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
- Optimise generation and offtake from Solar (Land-based & Floating), Green Energy and other sources.
- Ensure accurate day-ahead real-time and deviation management.
Portfolio Consolidation & Power Distribution
- Consolidate power generation from all Welspun power units into a unified trading and distribution framework.
- Plan and manage distribution of power across multiple Welspun sites based on demand, availability and cost efficiency.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure optimal allocation of power across business units.
Regulatory & Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with CERC, SERC, SLDC, RLDC and other statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Manage open access approvals, deviation settlement mechanisms (DSM) and grid codes.
- Liaise with utilities, power exchanges, system operators and regulatory bodies as required.
Stakeholder Management & Leadership
- Work closely with plant operations, finance, legal and commercial teams.
- Lead and mentor a team handling scheduling, trading operations and analytics.
- Provide strategic inputs to senior management on power procurement, renewable integration and cost optimisation.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in Open Market Power Trading, sourcing and dealing
- In-depth knowledge of Indian power markets, exchanges and regulatory frameworks
- Proven experience in power scheduling, DSM and portfolio optimisation
- Solid analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage large, diversified power portfolios
- Leadership capability with cross-functional collaboration skills
Qualification & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Energy / Power Systems (MBA preferred)
- Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in power trading / power market operations
- Experience handling renewable energy portfolios (Solar, Green Energy) preferred
- Prior exposure to multi-location power distribution and consolidation is essential
